Abstract
A vehicle device capable of emulating one or more tolling systems is presented, the vehicle device configured to determine a first type of tolling system in use on a first toll route, emulate the first type of tolling system, determine a second type of tolling system in use on a second toll route, and emulate the second type of tolling system.
Claims20
A portable vehicle device for emulating a tolling system, comprising:
- a controller that is integral to the vehicle device and is configured to:
- determine a first type of tolling system in use on a first toll route,
- emulate or fail to emulate the first type of tolling system,
- responsive to failing to emulate the first type of tolling system, transmit first tolling data to an intermediary collection service, the intermediary collection service being configured to provide the first tolling data to a tolling agency managing the first toll route
- determine a second type of tolling system in use on a second toll route,
- emulate or fail to emulate the second type of tolling system, and
- responsive to failing to emulate the second type of tolling system, transmit second tolling data to an intermediary collection service, the intermediary collection service being configured to provide the second tolling data to a tolling agency managing the second toll route.
A method of managing toll payment using a single vehicle device, the method comprising:
- determining a first type of tolling system associated with a first toll route via the single vehicle device;
- emulating or failing to emulate the first type of tolling system via the single vehicle device;
- responsive to failing to emulate the first type of tolling system, transmitting, via the single vehicle device, first tolling data to an intermediary collection service, the intermediary collection service being configured to provide the first tolling data to a tolling agency managing the first toll route;
- determining a second type of tolling system associated with a second toll route via the single vehicle device;
- emulating or failing to emulate the second type of tolling system via the single vehicle device;
- and
- responsive to failing to emulate the second type of tolling system, transmitting, via the single vehicle device, second tolling data to an intermediary collection service, the intermediary collection service being configured to provide the second tolling data to a tolling agency managing the second toll route.
A non-transitory computer-readable medium containing thereon instructions for paying a toll, the instructions instructing one processor to:
- determine a first type of tolling system associated with a first toll route;
- emulate or fail to emulate the first type of tolling system;
- responsive to failing to emulate the first type of tolling system, transmit first tolling data to an intermediary collection service, the intermediary collection service being configured to provide the first tolling data to a tolling agency managing the first toll route
- determine a second type of tolling system associated with a second toll route;
- emulate or fail to emulate the second type of tolling system;
- and
- responsive to failing to emulate the second type of tolling system, transmit second tolling data to the intermediary collection service, the intermediary collection service being configured to provide the second tolling data to a tolling agency managing the second toll route.
