Abstract
Computing systems, computer-readable media, and methods for direct arrival replacement. The method includes creating intermediate data from an acquired data by attenuating a direct arrival signal or attenuating the direct arrival signal and one or more strong early arrival signals recorded at a receiver; transforming the temporary data from a first processing domain into a second processing domain; modelling the direct arrival signal in the second processing domain; estimating a scalar for model calibration and a seabed reflectivity from an area around the direct arrival signal; and inserting the direct arrival signal that is modelled into the intermediate data in the second processing domain.
Claims19
A method for direct arrival replacement, the method comprising:
- sending, from a seismic source, a seismic signal;
- receiving, via a seismic receiver, a direct arrival signal from the seismic source, wherein the direct arrival signal propagates only in a water layer;
- creating intermediate data by attenuating the direct arrival signal or attenuating the direct arrival signal and one or more strong early arrival signals recorded at the seismic receiver;
- transforming the intermediate data from a first processing domain into a second processing domain;
- estimating a scalar for model calibration and a seabed reflectivity from an area around the direct arrival signal;
- decomposing the direct arrival signal in the second processing domain into an upgoing wavefield component and a downgoing wavefield component;
- modelling the direct arrival signal in the second processing domain using the scalar to produce a modelled direct arrival signal;
- inserting the modelled direct arrival signal into the downgoing wavefield component in the second processing domain, wherein inserting the modelled direct arrival signal includes removing at least a portion of the direct arrival signal that is clipped or distorted, to produce corrected seismic data;
- and
- using the corrected seismic data to perform a seismic processing operation.
A system for direct arrival replacement, comprising:
- a computer processor;
- and
- a memory storing instructions executed by the computer processor, wherein the instructions comprise a method comprising:
- sending, from a seismic source, a seismic signal;
- receiving, via a seismic receiver, a direct arrival signal from the seismic source, wherein the direct arrival signal propagates only in a water layer;
- creating intermediate data by attenuating the direct arrival signal or attenuating the direct arrival signal and one or more strong early arrival signals recorded at the seismic receiver;
- transforming the intermediate data from a first processing domain into a second processing domain;
- estimating a scalar for model calibration and a seabed reflectivity from an area around the direct arrival signal;
- decomposing the direct arrival signal in the second processing domain into an upgoing wavefield component and a downgoing wavefield component;
- modelling the direct arrival signal in the second processing domain using the scalar to produce a modelled direct arrival signal;
- inserting the modelled direct arrival signal into the downgoing wavefield component in the second processing domain, wherein inserting the modelled direct arrival signal includes removing at least a portion of the direct arrival signal that is clipped or distorted, to produce corrected seismic data;
- and
- using the corrected seismic data to perform a seismic processing operation.
A non-transitory computer readable medium storing instructions that are configured to, when executed, cause a computer processor to perform a method comprising:
- sending, from a seismic source, a seismic signal;
- receiving, via a seismic receiver, a direct arrival signal from the seismic source, wherein the direct arrival signal propagates only in a water layer;
- creating intermediate data by attenuating the direct arrival signal or attenuating the direct arrival signal and one or more strong early arrival signals recorded at the seismic receiver;
- transforming the intermediate data from a first processing domain into a second processing domain;
- estimating a scalar for model calibration and a seabed reflectivity from an area around the direct arrival signal;
- decomposing the direct arrival signal in the second processing domain into an upgoing wavefield component and a downgoing wavefield component;
- modelling the direct arrival signal in the second processing domain using the scalar to produce a modelled direct arrival signal;
- inserting the modelled direct arrival signal into the downgoing wavefield component in the second processing domain, wherein inserting the modelled direct arrival signal includes replacing at least a portion of the direct arrival signal that is clipped or distorted with corresponding samples of the modelled direct arrival signal, to produce corrected seismic data;
- and
- using the corrected seismic data to perform a seismic processing operation.
