High definition map based localization optimization

A system comprising:

• one or more processors to perform one or more control operations of a machine comprising:
• determining an operating context of a machine;
• and
• selecting, for localization of the machine and based at least on the operating context of the machine, a localization variant that uses sensor data corresponding to a sensor modality set that includes one or more vision sensor modalities, the selecting of the localization variant including adjusting one or more parameter values of one or more parameters used for performing the localization, the one or more parameter values indicating a manner in which the sensor data is processed for performing the localization and indicating one or more vision sensor modalities to use as part of performing the localization.

A system comprising:

• one or more processors to perform one or more control operations of a machine comprising:
• selecting, for localization of the machine and based at least on a first operating context of the machine, a first localization variant corresponding to a localization technique;
• determining that the first operating context of the machine has changed to a second operating context;
• and
• responsive to determining that the first operating context has changed to the second operating context, transitioning, for localization of the machine and based at least on the second operating context, from the first localization variant to a second localization variant of the localization technique, the transitioning including adjusting, by the machine, one or more parameters corresponding to the localization technique from having one or more first parameter values corresponding to the first localization variant to having one or more second parameter values corresponding to the second localization variant, the one or more first parameter values dictating a first manner in which first vision sensor data is processed for performing the localization and the one or more second parameter values dictating a second manner in which second vision sensor data is processed for performing the localization.
