Abstract
Disclosed herein are adhesive compositions containing a cottonseed protein and a catechol compound containing a carboxyl group, and optionally a carrier. Also disclosed are processes for producing an adhesive composition involving mixing a cottonseed protein and a catechol compound containing a carboxyl group, and optionally a carrier.
Claims6
A process for producing an adhesive composition, said process comprising mixing a cottonseed protein with from about 45 mM to about 179 mM of a catechol compound containing a carboxyl group, and optionally a carrier.
A method of bonding a first article to a second article, said method comprising (a) producing an adhesive composition by mixing a cottonseed protein with from about 45 mM to about 179 mM of a catechol compound containing a carboxyl group, and optionally a carrier;
- at a pH of about 4 to about 12, and at a temperature of about 20° C. to about 60° C.;
- (b) depositing on a surface of said first article said adhesive composition thereby creating a binding area;
- (c) contacting said binding area with a surface of said second article;
- and (d) applying heat and pressure to bond said first article to said second article.
