Abstract
A seating arrangement for a passenger-carrying vehicle including a first seat and a third seat arranged in a first row and facing in a forward direction, and a second seat located rearwardly of the first and third seats. The third seat is offset forwardly with respect to the first seat, the second seat is offset with respect to each of the first and third seats in a transverse direction that is perpendicular to the forward direction such that it is located between the first and third seats in the transverse direction. The combined effect of the transverse offset of the seats in adjacent rows, together with the forward offset of the seats in any given row provides seated passengers with a larger passenger accommodation region than is provided by conventional seating arrangements.
Claims19
A seating arrangement for a passenger-carrying vehicle, said seating arrangement comprising:
- a first seat and a third seat arranged in a first row adjacent each other and facing in a forward direction;
- and
- a second seat and a fourth seat arranged adjacent each other in a second row, said second and fourth seats each facing in the forward direction, said second row being located rearwardly of said first row;
- wherein said third seat is offset forwardly in the forward direction with respect to said first seat, said fourth seat is offset forwardly in the forward direction with respect to said second seat, and wherein said second seat is offset with respect to each of said first and third seats in a transverse direction that is perpendicular to the forward direction such that it is located between said first and third seats in the transverse direction;
- wherein said second seat overlaps with each of said first seat and said third seat in said transverse direction, and wherein said fourth seat overlaps with said third seat in said transverse direction but does not overlap with said first seat in said transverse direction;
- and
- wherein said first row and said second row are spaced apart from each other by an inter-row pitch that provides a gap between said first row and said second row, said gap providing passenger access to said second seat and to said fourth seat;
- and
- wherein a foot well region is provided at the rear of the third seat for accommodating a person's feet when the person is seated in the second seat.
A seating arrangement for a passenger-carrying vehicle, said seating arrangement comprising:
- a first seat and a third seat arranged in a first row adjacent each other and facing in a forward direction;
- and
- a second seat located rearwardly of said first and third seats;
- wherein said third seat is offset forwardly with respect to said first seat, and wherein said second seat is offset with respect to each of said first and third seats in a transverse direction that is perpendicular to the forward direction such that said second seat is located between said first and third seats in the transverse direction;
- wherein at least said second seat comprises a seat pan and a back rest, and is operable between an upright state and a reclined state, wherein in the reclined state:
- said seat pan is in a position that is forward with respect to a position of said seat pan in the upright state;
- a rear portion of said seat pan is at a level that is lower than a level of said rear portion in the upright state;
- and
- said seat pan is more steeply disposed with respect to horizontal in an upward direction than when in the upright state;
- wherein said first and second seats are spaced apart in the forward direction by a pitch that allows at least part of one leg of a passenger in said second seat to fit below an overhang at a rear of said first seat when said second seat is in said reclined state, and wherein a transverse overlap between said first and second seats is such that only one leg of the passenger fits below the overhang at the rear of said first seat.
A seating arrangement for a passenger-carrying vehicle, said seating arrangement comprising:
- a first seat and a third seat arranged in a first row adjacent each other and facing in a forward direction;
- and
- a second seat and a fourth seat arranged adjacent each other in a second row, said second and fourth seats each facing in the forward direction, said second row being located rearwardly of said first row;
- wherein said third seat is offset forwardly in the forward direction with respect to said first seat, said fourth seat is offset forwardly in the forward direction with respect to said second seat, and wherein said second seat is offset with respect to each of said first and third seats in a transverse direction that is perpendicular to the forward direction such that it is located between said first and third seats in the transverse direction;
- wherein said second seat overlaps with each of said first seat and said third seat in said transverse direction, and wherein said fourth seat overlaps with said third seat in said transverse direction but does not overlap with said first seat in said transverse direction;
- wherein said first and second seats are spaced apart in the forward direction by a pitch that allows at least part of one leg of a passenger in said second seat to fit below an overhang at the rear of said first seat when said second seat is in a reclined state;
- wherein a transverse overlap between said first and second seats is such that only one leg of the passenger in said second seat fits below the overhang at the rear of the first seat;
- wherein said third and fourth seats are spaced apart in the forward direction by a pitch that allows at least part of one leg of a passenger in said fourth seat to fit below an overhang at the rear of said third seat when said fourth seat is in a reclined state;
- and
- wherein a transverse overlap between said third and fourth seats is such that only one leg of the passenger in said fourth seat fits below the overhang at the rear of said third seat.
