Systems and methods for implementing a multi-segment braking profile for a vehicle

A method for controlling a host vehicle, comprising:

• acquiring, using a camera, a plurality of images of an area ahead of the host vehicle;
• identifying, based on analysis of the plurality of images, a target object presented in the plurality of images;
• determining, based on the plurality of images and a current speed of the host vehicle, an expected distance between the host vehicle and the target object;
• and
• transmitting a signal to a braking system to apply a brake to the host vehicle, in response to determining that the expected distance is less than a threshold, the signal being generated according to a multi-segment braking profile.

A non-transitory computer-readable medium storing instructions that, when executed by one or more processors, cause a vehicle control system to:

• acquire a plurality of images of an area ahead of a host vehicle using a camera;
• identify, based on analysis of the plurality of images, a target object represented in the plurality of images;
• determine, based on the plurality of images and a current speed of the host vehicle, an expected distance between the host vehicle and the target object;
• and
• transmit a signal to a braking system to apply a brake to the host vehicle, in response to determining that the expected distance is less than a threshold, the signal being generated according to a multi-segment braking profile.
