Abstract
An implant is disclosed that a base member configured to be secured in bone, the base member includes a plate portion, an articulating member, and a coupling portion for securing the base member to the articulating member. A stem extends from the plate portion, where the stem is positioned offset from a center of the plate portion. The coupling portion includes a first fixation component, and a second fixation component including an opening for receiving the first fixation component, where the first fixation component is coupled to the articulating member and the second fixation component is coupled to the base member.
Claims12
An implant, comprising:
- a base member configured to be secured in bone, the base member comprising:
- a plate portion,
- a stem extending from the plate portion, the stem being positioned offset from a center of the plate portion, and
- a projection extending away from a first side of the plate portion;
- an articulating member;
- and
- a coupling portion for securing the base member to the articulating member, wherein the coupling portion comprises:
- a first fixation component;
- a second fixation component including an opening for receiving the first fixation component, wherein the first fixation component is configured to be coupled to the articulating member and the second fixation component is configured to be coupled to the base member, and
- an elastic member with a first end and a second end, wherein the first end of the elastic member is configured to engage a second end of the first fixation component and the second end of the elastic member is configured to engage a recess inside the projection of the base member,
- wherein the first fixation component is configured to be received within the second fixation component and a portion of the first fixation component is configured to extend out an opening in a first end of the second fixation component.
An implant, comprising:
- a base member configured to be secured in bone, the base member comprising a plate portion and a stem extending from the plate portion, the stem being positioned offset from a center of the plate portion;
- an articulating member including an outer surface, an interior surface, and a cavity extending into the articulating member from the interior surface;
- and
- a coupling portion for securing the base member to the articulating member, wherein the coupling portion comprises:
- a securement member with a first portion at a first end, a second portion at a second end, and an intermediate portion positioned between the first portion and the second portion;
- an elastic member engaging at least a portion of the second portion;
- and
- an engagement member coupled to the intermediate portion,
- wherein the securement member is configured to be coupled to the articulating member and the engagement member is configured to be coupled to the base member, wherein the base member includes a projection extending away from a first side of the plate portion and the stem extending away from a second side of the plate portion.
A method of using an implant, comprising:
- positioning a base member of the implant within a bone, the base member including a plate portion, a stem extending from the plate portion and being offset from a center of the plate portion, and a projection extending away from a first side of the plate portion;
- attaching an articulating member of the implant to the base member with a coupling portion positioned at least partially within a projection of the base member and the projection and a portion of the coupling portion extending into a cavity within the articulating member to engage a threaded portion in the cavity of the articulating member, wherein the coupling portion includes:
- a first fixation component,
- a second fixation component including an opening for receiving the first fixation component, and
- an elastic member with a first end and a second end, the first end of the elastic member engaging a second end of the first fixation component, and the second end of the elastic member engaging a recess inside the projection of the base member,
- wherein when the first fixation component is received within the second fixation component, a portion of the first fixation component extends out of the opening of the second fixation component.
