Trend analysis for hydration monitoring

A wearable user measurement device (UMD) comprising:

• a housing comprising a first side and a second side opposite the first side;
• a securement mechanism configured to secure the second side toward a body part of a user;
• an impedance pad disposed at the second side and defining a surface, the surface being uneven such that when the UMD is initially donned by the user, the surface defines air gaps between portions of the surface and the body part;
• an alert module disposed within the housing and electrically coupled to the impedance pad, the alert module comprising at least one of a communication unit or an indicator;
• an impedance sensor configured to measure an electrical impedance, wherein the impedance sensor includes the impedance pad characterized by variations in height and contour;
• and
• a processor operatively coupled to the impedance sensor, wherein the processor is configured to:
• measure electrical impedance of the body part of the user with the impedance sensor, the electrical impedance corresponding to a physiological parameter of the user;
• identify trend data based on monitoring the electrical impedance measured by the impedance sensor, wherein the trend data includes first activity data for a first activity phase associated with a low activity level of the user and second activity data for a second activity phase associated with a high activity of the user;
• identify acclimation data in the second activity data, wherein the acclimation data correspond to an acclimation of a surface of the body part of the user acclimating to the variations in height and contour of the uneven surface of the impedance pad based on the user performing the high activity level, identifying the acclimation data including:
• identifying a first impedance based on a first amount of contact between the impedance pad and the body part of the user at a first time;
• identifying a second impedance based on a second amount of contact between the impedance pad and the body part of the user at a second time, wherein the first amount of contact is greater than the second of contact and the second impedance is greater than the first impedance based on a physiological response of the surface of the body part to the high activity level of the user to form greater contact with the variations of height and contour of the uneven surface of the impedance pad;
• and
• determining that a rate of change from the first impedance to the second impedance exceeds a threshold rate of change;
• remove the acclimation data from the second activity data to generate updated second activity data;
• and
• provide a notification to the user of a change to the physiological parameter based on identifying a change in the updated second activity data exceeding a predetermined second phase range associated with the high activity level of the second activity phase that is different from a first phase range associated with the low activity level of the first activity phase.

An apparatus comprising:

• an impedance sensor configured to measure an electrical impedance;
• a sensor interface of the impedance sensor comprising an impedance pad comprising a conductive material defining an external surface of the sensor interface, the conductive material defining a plurality of depressions formed by an unevenness of the conductive material defining the external surface, the unevenness of the conductive material characterized by variations in height and contour of the conducive material, the depressions defining air gaps between the impedance pad and a body part when the apparatus is donned such that the conductive material directly contacts the body part;
• a housing configured to secure the impedance pad against the body part;
• a communication module disposed within the housing and electrically coupled to the impedance sensor;
• and
• a processing element coupled to the sensor interface, wherein the processing element is operable to:
• measure electrical impedance of the body part of an individual with the impedance sensor at the uneven surface of the sensor interface, the electrical impedance corresponding to a physiological parameter of the individual;
• identify trend data based on monitoring the electrical impedance measured by the impedance sensor, wherein the trend data includes a non-wet phase of the impedance sensor including the sensor interface non-wetted prior to the apparatus being donned, first activity data for a first activity phase associated with a low activity level of the individual and second activity data for a second activity phase associated with a high activity of the individual;
• identify acclimation data in the second activity data, wherein the acclimation data corresponds to an acclimation of a surface of the body part of the individual acclimating to the variations in height and contour of the uneven surface of the impedance pad based on the individual performing the high activity level, identifying the acclimation data including:
• identify initial impedance based on the non-wet phase of the impedance sensor prior to the apparatus being donned:
• identifying a first impedance based on a first amount of contact between the impedance pad and the body part of the individual at a first time;
• identifying a second impedance based on a second amount of contact between the impedance pad and the body part of the individual at a second time, wherein the first amount of contact is less than the second amount of contact and the second impedance is greater than the first impedance based on
• a physiological response of the surface of the body part to the high activity level of the individual to form greater contact with the variations in height and contour of the uneven surface of the impedance pad;
• and
• determining that a rate of change of the first impedance to the second impedance exceeds a threshold rate of change and a difference between the initial impedance and the first impedance or the second impedance exceeds a threshold difference;
• remove the acclimation data from the second activity data, based on the determining that the rate of change of the first impedance to the second impedance exceeds the threshold rate of change and the difference between the initial impedance and the first impedance or the second impedance exceeds the threshold difference, to generate updated second activity data;
• and
• provide a notification via the communication module to the individual of a change to the physiological parameter based on identifying a change in the second updated activity data exceeding a predetermined second phase range associated with the high activity level of the second activity phase that is different from a first phase range associated with the low activity level of the first activity phase.
