Abstract
The subject disclosure provides systems and methods for improved signal strength determination for wireless communication. A client device may determine a corrected signal strength, corresponding to a network connection to an access point, by applying a correction to a measured signal strength. The correction may be based on a channel width for the connection.
Claims20
A method, comprising:
- at a first device:
- receiving, from a second device, at least one beacon over a first channel having a first channel width;
- receiving data from the second device over a second channel having a second channel width different from the first channel width;
- determining, based at least on the at least one beacon, a signal strength corresponding to the second device;
- applying, to the signal strength, a correction that is based at least on the second channel width to obtain a corrected signal strength;
- and
- operating in accordance with the corrected signal strength.

An electronic device, comprising:
- memory;
- and
- one or more processors configured to:
- receive at least one beacon from a second device over a first channel having a first channel width;
- receive data from the second device over a second channel having a second channel width different from the first channel width;
- determine, based at least on the at least one beacon, a signal strength corresponding to the second device;
- apply, to the signal strength, a correction that is based at least on the second channel width to obtain a corrected signal strength;
- and
- operate the electronic device in accordance with the corrected signal strength.
6 more elements
A non-transitory computer readable medium storing instructions which, when executed by one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to:
- receive at least one beacon from a device over a first channel having a first channel width;
- receive data from the device over a second channel having a second channel width different from the first channel width;
- determine, based at least on the at least one beacon, a signal strength corresponding to the device;
- apply, to the signal strength, a correction that is based at least on the second channel width to obtain a corrected signal strength;
- and
- operate an electronic device in accordance with the corrected signal strength.
