Abstract
A wearable electronics device with at least one replaceable ornamentation that can be structured and configured to attach to a user's ear in at least two locations and provide a user with the ability to have a changeable aesthetic. The connections to a user's ear can vary from posts to clips and may also include a hanger that can be an additional connection to a user's ear by providing purchase on the user's ear from the antitragus to the tragus, thereby improving the weight distribution of the device as compared to existing wearable electronics. Such wearable electronics may include audio components and biometric sensors to provide monitoring of a user's health.

An adjustable device for securing to an ear comprising:
- a first attachment module structured and configured to engage with an earlobe;
- a second attachment module;
- a hanger that protrudes from the second attachment module, wherein the hanger is structured and configured to mount an external portion of the ear above the earlobe;
- an electronics module comprising electronics;
- a length adjustment mechanism configured to adjust a distance between an end of the first attachment module and an end of the second attachment module, wherein the length adjustment mechanism comprises a spring-loaded rail;
- and
- a first ornamentation-attachment site disposed on the first attachment module.
An adjustable device for securing to an ear comprising:
- a first attachment module structured and configured to engage with an earlobe via a post or a clip;
- a second attachment module;
- a hanger that protrudes from the second attachment module, wherein the hanger is structured and configured to mount an external portion of the ear above the earlobe;
- an electronics module comprising electronics;
- a distance between an end of the first attachment module and an end of the second attachment module;
- a first ornamentation-attachment site disposed on the electronics module, wherein the first ornamentation-attachment site is not positioned behind the earlobe and is configured to receive a replaceable ornamentation without the use of tools;
- and
- a second ornamentation-attachment site disposed on the first attachment module, wherein the second ornamentation-attachment site is not positioned behind the earlobe and is configured to receive a replaceable ornamentation without the use of tools.
A method of attaching an adjustable device to an ear comprising the steps of:
- providing the adjustable device comprising:
- a first attachment module structured and configured to engage with an earlobe via a post or a first clip;
- a second attachment module;
- a hanger that protrudes from the second attachment module, wherein the hanger is structured and configured to mount an external portion of the ear above the earlobe, and further wherein the hanger comprises a head and a stem;
- an electronics module comprising electronics;
- at least one length adjustment mechanism, wherein the length adjustment mechanism is configured to adjust a distance between an end of the first attachment module and an end of the second attachment module;
- a first ornamentation-attachment site disposed on the electronics module, wherein the first ornamentation-attachment site is configured to receive a replaceable ornamentation without the use of tools;
- and
- a second ornamentation-attachment site disposed on the first attachment module, wherein the second ornamentation-attachment site is not positioned behind the earlobe and is configured to receive a replaceable ornamentation without the use of tools;
- determining a distance from a connection point on the earlobe to the external portion of the ear above the earlobe;
- using the at least one length adjustment mechanism to adjust the distance between the post or clip, and the head of the hanger to the determined distance from the connection point on the earlobe to the external portion of the ear above the earlobe;
- attaching the first attachment module to the earlobe;
- and
- hanging the hanger onto the external portion of the ear above the earlobe.
An adjustable device for securing to an ear comprising:
- a first attachment module structured and configured to engage with an earlobe;
- a second attachment module;
- a hanger that protrudes from the second attachment module, wherein the hanger is structured and configured to attach to a portion of the ear from an antitragus to a tragus of the ear;
- an electronics module comprising electronics, wherein the electronics module comprises a speaker;
- and
- wherein the hanger does not comprise a speaker.
An adjustable device for securing to an ear comprising:
- a first attachment module structured and configured to engage with an earlobe;
- a second attachment module;
- a hanger that protrudes from the second attachment module, wherein the hanger comprises a stem and a head, wherein the stem is disposed between the head and the second attachment module, and wherein the hanger is structured and configured to attach to a portion of the ear from an antitragus to a tragus of the ear;
- and
- an electronics module comprising electronics, wherein the electronics module comprises a speaker and all the electronics associated with the adjustable device are contained in the electronics module.
An adjustable device for securing to an ear comprising:
- an attachment module structured and configured to engage with an earlobe via a post or a clip;
- an electronics module, wherein the electronics module comprises electronics and a hanger, wherein the hanger is structured and configured to attach to a portion of the ear from an antitragus to a tragus of the ear;
- and
- wherein the adjustable device is modular such that the attachment module and the electronics module are configured to be disconnected from one another without disassembling either module and are configured to be reconnected together without assembling either module;
- a first ornamentation-attachment site disposed on the electronics module, wherein the first ornamentation-attachment site is configured to receive a replaceable ornamentation without the use of tools, and a second ornamentation-attachment site disposed on the attachment module, wherein the second ornamentation-attachment site is configured to receive a replaceable ornamentation without the use of tools.
An adjustable device for securing to an ear comprising:
- an attachment module structured and configured to engage with an earlobe via a post or a clip;
- an electronics module, wherein the electronics module comprises electronics and a hanger, wherein the hanger is structured and configured to attach to a portion of the ear from an antitragus to a tragus of the ear;
- wherein the adjustable device is modular such that the attachment module and the electronics module are configured to be disconnected from one another without disassembling either module and are configured to be reconnected together without assembling either module;
- and
- wherein the attachment module includes a length adjuster comprising a series of iteratively placed grooves and the electronics module includes a protruding attachment point that interacts with any of the grooves such that a user can adjust the distance between the hanger and an end of the attachment module by selecting a particular groove for the interaction.
