Abstract
A server maintains a gallery of ephemeral messages. Each ephemeral message is posted to the gallery by a user for viewing by recipients via recipient devices. In response to a gallery view request from any of the recipient devices, the ephemeral messages in the gallery are displayed on the requesting device in automated sequence, each message being displayed for a respective display duration before display of the next message in the gallery. A user interface via which the gallery is viewable includes indicia based on a posting time of that one of the plurality of ephemeral messages which was posted to the gallery last.
Claims20
A method comprising:
- maintaining a gallery comprising a plurality of ephemeral messages that respectively comprise visual media content including photographic or video material, each of the plurality of ephemeral messages having a respective posting time at which the ephemeral message was posted to the gallery, each ephemeral message having an associated ephemeral lifetime that begins at the respective posting time thereof and that ends upon expiration of a default period of time subsequent to the respective posting time thereof, a last posted ephemeral message being that one of the plurality of ephemeral messages whose posting time is most recent;
- causing display on a user device of a user interface that enables viewing of the gallery on the user device the user interface including:
- a plurality of gallery items representing a corresponding plurality of galleries, a particular one of the plurality of gallery items corresponding to said gallery;
- and
- a respective recency label displayed in visual association with each of the plurality of gallery items, each recency label displaying an immediately visible alpha-numerical representation of a time value indicative of a time elapsed since the posting time of the last posted ephemeral message in the associated gallery;
- receiving user input indicating selection of the particular gallery item corresponding to said gallery;
- responsive to selection of the particular gallery item, causing automated sequential display of the plurality of ephemeral message on the user device, the automated sequential display comprising displaying the respective visual media content of the plurality of ephemeral messages one at a time and one after another in a chronological sequence that corresponds in order to the respective posting times such that the last posted message is displayed last in the chronological sequence;
- and
- for each of the plurality of ephemeral messages, responsive to expiration of the respective associated ephemeral lifetime, automatically removing the ephemeral message from the gallery such that the ephemeral message is thereafter unavailable for viewing as part of the gallery.

A system comprising:
- one or more computer processors;
- and
- one or more memories storing instructions executed by the one or more computer processors to configure the one or more computer processors to perform automated operations comprising:
- maintaining a gallery comprising a plurality of ephemeral messages that respectively comprise visual media content including photographic or video material, each of the plurality of ephemeral messages having a respective posting time at which the ephemeral message was posted to the gallery, each ephemeral message having an associated ephemeral lifetime that begins at the respective posting time thereof and that ends upon expiration of a default period of time subsequent to the respective posting time thereof, a last posted ephemeral message being that one of the plurality of ephemeral messages whose posting time is most recent;
- causing display on a user device of a user interface that enables viewing of the gallery on the user device the user interface including:
- a plurality of gallery items representing a corresponding plurality of galleries, a particular one of the plurality of gallery items corresponding to said gallery;
- and
- a respective recency label displayed in visual association with each of the plurality of gallery items, each recency label displaying an immediately visible alpha-numerical representation of a time value indicative of a time elapsed since the posting time of the last posted ephemeral message in the associated gallery;
- receiving user input indicating selection of the particular gallery item corresponding to said gallery;
- responsive to selection of the particular gallery item, causing automated sequential display of the plurality of ephemeral message on the user device, the automated sequential display comprising displaying the respective visual media content of the plurality of ephemeral messages one at a time and one after another in a chronological sequence that corresponds in order to the respective posting times such that the last posted message is displayed last in the chronological sequence;
- and
- for each of the plurality of ephemeral messages, responsive to expiration of the respective associated ephemeral lifetime, automatically removing the ephemeral message from the gallery such that the ephemeral message is thereafter unavailable for viewing as part of the gallery.

A non-transitory computer readable storage medium having stored thereon instructions for causing a machine, when executing the instructions, to perform operations comprising:
- maintaining a gallery comprising a plurality of ephemeral messages that respectively comprise visual media content including photographic or video material, each of the plurality of ephemeral messages having a respective posting time at which the ephemeral message was posted to the gallery, ephemeral message having an associated ephemeral lifetime that begins at the respective posting time thereof and that ends upon expiration of a default period of time subsequent to the respective posting time thereof, a last posted ephemeral message being that one of the plurality of ephemeral messages whose posting time is most recent;
- causing display on a user device of a user interface that enables viewing of the gallery on the user device the user interface including:
- a plurality of gallery items representing a corresponding plurality of galleries, a particular one of the plurality of gallery items corresponding to said gallery;
- and
- a respective recency label displayed in visual association with each of the plurality of gallery items, each recency label displaying an immediately visible alpha-numerical representation of a time value indicative of a time elapsed since the posting time of the last posted ephemeral message in the associated gallery;
- receiving user input indicating selection of the particular gallery item corresponding to said gallery;
- responsive to selection of the particular gallery item, causing automated sequential display of the plurality of ephemeral message on the user device, the automated sequential display comprising displaying the respective visual media content of the plurality of ephemeral messages one at a time and one after another in a chronological sequence that corresponds in order to the respective posting times such that the last posted message is displayed last in the chronological sequence;
- and
- for each of the plurality of ephemeral messages, responsive to expiration of the respective associated ephemeral lifetime, automatically removing the ephemeral message from the gallery such that the ephemeral message is thereafter unavailable for viewing as part of the gallery.
