Uninterrupted media play and call management text user interface

An apparatus for allowing a user to manage an incoming phone call from a caller during playing of a media, the apparatus comprising:

• a radio frequency unit configured to connect to a network and to receive the incoming phone call via the network;
• at least one output device configured to vibrate on receiving the incoming phone call;
• a touch enabled display screen configured to present a graphical user interface;
• and
• a processor electrically connected to the radio frequency unit, the output device, and the touch enabled display screen, wherein the processor is configured to:
• receive the incoming phone call;
• determine one or more preconfigured criteria associated with managing the incoming phone call during media playback, the preconfigured criteria comprising at least a text-only communication mode;
• based on the determined preconfigured criteria, generate and display a notification object on the graphical user interface with one or more call management options corresponding to the preconfigured criteria;
• enable text communication between the user and the caller, during media playback, in accordance with the preconfigured criteria, by overlaying a translucent text communication layout on the graphical user interface to display incoming text messages while the media continues to play in the background;
• send an automated text message to the caller of the incoming phone call indicating an availability of the user only for the text communication during a time period corresponding to a detected playing of media content, the message being triggered based on detecting media playback and estimating a duration of the media being played;
• and
• continue the playing of the media on the graphical user interface without interruption by the incoming phone call.

A method for allowing a user to manage an incoming phone call from a caller during playing of a media, the method comprising:

• receiving the incoming phone call via a network;
• determining one or more preconfigured criteria associated with managing the incoming phone call during media playback, the preconfigured criteria comprising at least a text-only communication mode;
• generating and displaying, based on the determined preconfigured criteria, a notification object on a graphical user interface of a touch-enabled display screen with one or more call management options corresponding to the preconfigured criteria;
• overlaying a translucent text communication layout on the graphical user interface to see text messages from the caller;
• sending an automated text message to the caller of the incoming phone call indicating an availability of the user only for the text communication during a time period corresponding to a detected playing of media content, the message being triggered based on detecting media playback and estimating a duration of the media being played;
• and
• continue the playing of the media on the graphical user interface without interruption by the incoming phone call.
