Methods for augmented reality gaming

A method of detecting bonus redemption fraud in a gaming system, the method comprising:

• in response to a request to redeem a bonus, capturing an image of game play on a gaming machine with a camera on a mobile device;
• sending the image to a server;
• analyzing the image for fraud at the server, the analyzing comprising:
• identifying a symbol matrix from the image, wherein the symbol matrix comprises an arrangement of symbols for a game;
• validating the symbol matrix to determine if a bonus condition is met;
• determining a state of the game with known optical character recognition (OCR) techniques;
• analyzing the symbol matrix to determine if the matrix is valid, the analyzing of the symbol matrix comprising comparing each of a plurality of reel segments of the symbol matrix against a stored set of legal reel strips for the game;
• comparing at least an arrangement of the symbol matrix against corresponding data of other bonus redemptions for the game;
• in response to the analyzing indicating that the request to redeem the bonus is fraudulent, denying payment of the bonus by transmitting a denial signal to the mobile device;
• and
• in response to the analyzing indicating that the request to redeem the bonus is not fraudulent, redeeming the requested bonus by signaling a bonus award module of the server to award the bonus.
