Abstract
Lubricating oil composition is provided. The composition includes several components including a base oil, a primary antioxidant including alkylated diphenylamines having an alkyl group derived from propylene tetramers, and a carboxylate detergent.
Claims18
A lubricating oil composition comprising:
- a base oil;
- a primary antioxidant comprising an alkylated diphenylamine having an alkyl group derived from a propylene oligomer wherein the propylene oligomer comprises about 50-90 wt % C12H24 and about 1-10 wt % C15H30;
- about 0.5 wt % to about 4 wt % of a carboxylate detergent;
- and
- about 0.5 wt % to about 8 wt % of a secondary antioxidant comprising a dithiocarbamate, a hindered phenol, or a molybdenum succinimide;
- wherein at least 90% of the alkyl group of the alkylated diphenylamine have a carbon number between 10 and 15.

A method of lubricating an engine, the method comprising:
- supplying to the engine a lubricating oil composition comprising:
- a major amount of a base oil;
- and
- a primary antioxidant comprising an alkylated diphenylamine having an alkyl group derived from a propylene oligomer wherein the propylene oligomer comprises about 50-90 wt % C12H24 and about 1-10 wt % C15H30;
- about 0.5 wt % to about 4 wt % of a carboxylate detergent;
- and
- about 0.5 wt % to about 8 wt % of a secondary antioxidant comprising a dithiocarbamate, a hindered phenol, or a molybdenum succinimide;
- wherein at least 90% of the alkyl group of the alkylated diphenylamine have a carbon number between 10 and 15.
