Abstract
A process for the preparation of compound of formula I is provided: (I) where R1 and R2 are as defined in the description.
Claims20
A process for the preparation of a chloro-pyridine compound of formula (I):
- wherein R1 is H or C1-C4alkyl;
- and
- R2 is C1-C4alkyl;
- said process comprising:
- (A) reacting a compound of formula II
- wherein Xa is fluoro or chloro,
- with a thiol compound R3—S—R2, wherein R2 is as defined in formula I and R3 is H or an alkali metal ion;
- in the presence of a base and a solvent or a diluent having a dielectric constant less than 15 to produce a compound of formula (Ia) or a salt thereof
- and,
- optionally, esterifying the compound of the formula (Ia) or a salt thereof in the presence of a compound of formula ROH, wherein R is C1-4alkyl to produce the compound of formula (I) where R1 is C1-C4alkyl.
