Abstract
The present disclosure relates to compositions and methods for lime-based carbon capture. The composition comprises a calcium hydroxide component having a specific surface area of at least about 30 m2/g; free moisture in an amount of about 1.5 to about 30 wt. %, based on the total weight of the composition; and one or more moisture-retaining additives attached to at least a portion of a surface of the calcium hydroxide component.
Claims13
A process for capture of carbon dioxide in air, comprising:
- providing a first composition comprising:
- calcium hydroxide,
- free moisture in an amount of about 1.5 to about 30 wt. %, based on the total weight of the composition, and
- one or more moisture-retaining additives attached to at least a portion of a surface of the calcium hydroxide;
- and
- contacting the first composition with air to capture CO2 contained in the air by converting at least part of the calcium hydroxide into calcium carbonate, thereby forming a second composition comprising the calcium carbonate.
