Abstract
Transcription cassettes and vectors comprising a nucleotide sequence encoding a transcription factor; plants, plant cells, plant cell cultures and seeds that are genetically engineered to include a recombinant copy or copies of the nucleic acid encoding the transcription factor; and processes for the extraction of benzylisoquinoline alkaloids from the genetically engineered plants are provided. Plants carrying a mutated genomic copy of said transcription factor and its effect on benzylisoquinoline alkaloids synthesis are also provided.
Claims6
A Papaver somniferum plant, or plant part thereof, having reduced or undetectable activity of a transcription factor, wherein the sequence encoding said transcription factor comprises the nucleotide sequence set forth in SEQ ID NO:1, and wherein said nucleotide sequence is modified or deleted.
