Physical uplink shared channel configurations and occasions for handover procedures

A method for wireless communications at a network device, comprising:

• receiving, from a source cell, an indication of a handover procedure to handover a user equipment (UE) from the source cell to a target cell;
• determining a plurality of occasions for a physical uplink shared channel transmission associated with the handover procedure based at least in part on the indication, each occasion of the plurality of occasions comprising a different set of time and frequency resources for the physical uplink shared channel transmission;
• transmitting, to the UE, a first message indicating the plurality of occasions for the physical uplink shared channel transmission;
• transmitting, to the UE, an indication of a number of synchronization signal/physical broadcast channel blocks of one or more sets of downlink resources;
• transmitting, to the UE, the one or more sets of downlink resources via one or more respective beams in accordance with the indication of the number of synchronization signal/physical broadcast channel blocks, wherein the one or more sets of downlink resources indicates a subset of the plurality of occasions based at least in part on an association between the plurality of occasions and the one or more sets of downlink resources of the target cell;
• and
• receiving, from the UE, a second message on a physical uplink shared channel via the subset of the plurality of occasions and via a beam associated with at least one of the one or more respective beams, the second message indicating a completion of the handover procedure to the target cell.

A user equipment (UE), comprising:

• one or more memories storing processor-executable code;
• and
• one or more processors coupled with the one or more memories and operable to execute the code to cause the UE to:
• receive, from a source cell, a handover command comprising an indication to perform a handover to a target cell;
• identify a plurality of occasions for a physical uplink shared channel transmission associated with the handover, each occasion of the plurality of occasions comprising a different set of time and frequency resources for the physical uplink shared channel transmission;
• receive an indication of a number of synchronization signal/physical broadcast channel blocks of one or more sets of downlink resources to be transmitted by the target cell;
• receive, from the target cell and in accordance with the indication of the number of synchronization signal/physical broadcast channel blocks, the one or more sets of downlink resources via one or more respective receive beams;
• identify a subset of occasions from the plurality of occasions for the physical uplink shared channel transmission, wherein the subset of occasions is identified based at least in part on an association between the subset of occasions and the one or more sets of downlink resources received from the target cell;
• and
• transmit, to the target cell, a message on a physical uplink shared channel via the subset of occasions and via a transmit beam associated with at least one of the one or more respective receive beams, the message indicating a completion of the handover to the target cell.

A network device, comprising:

• one or more memories storing processor-executable code;
• and
• one or more processors coupled with the one or more memories and operable to execute the code to cause the network device to:
• receive, from a source cell, an indication of a handover procedure to handover a user equipment (UE) from the source cell to a target cell;
• determine a plurality of occasions for a physical uplink shared channel transmission associated with the handover procedure based at least in part on the indication, each occasion of the plurality of occasions comprising a different set of time and frequency resources for the physical uplink shared channel transmission;
• transmit, to the UE, a first message indicating the plurality of occasions for the physical uplink shared channel transmission;
• transmit, to the UE, an indication of a number of synchronization signal/physical broadcast channel blocks of one or more sets of downlink resources;
• transmit, to the UE, the one or more sets of downlink resources via one or more respective beams in accordance with the indication of the number of synchronization signal/physical broadcast channel blocks, wherein the one or more sets of downlink resources indicates a subset of the plurality of occasions based at least in part on an association between the plurality of occasions and the one or more sets of downlink resources of the target cell;
• and
• receive, from the UE, a second message on a physical uplink shared channel via the subset of the plurality of occasions and via a beam associated with at least one of the one or more respective beams, the second message indicating a completion of the handover procedure to the target cell.
