Abstract
Aspects described herein relate to initiating, by a source base station, handover of a user equipment (UE) from the source base station to a target base station, where the source base station supports user plane (UP) integrity protection (IP) for the UE, determining, based on initiating the handover, whether the target base station supports the UP IP, and determining, based on determining whether the target base station supports the UP IP, whether to continue the handover of the UE from the source base station to the target base station.
Claims24
An apparatus for wireless communication, comprising:
- a transceiver;
- a memory configured to store instructions;
- and
- one or more processors communicatively coupled with the memory and the transceiver, wherein the one or more processors are configured to execute the instructions to cause the apparatus to:
- initiate, by a source base station, handover of a user equipment (UE) from the source base station to a target base station by transmitting, to the target base station, a handover request, wherein the source base station supports user plane (UP) integrity protection (IP) for the UE;
- receive, from the target base station, a handover message acknowledging the handover request to handover the UE from the source base station to the target base station;
- determine, by the source base station, whether the handover message includes an indication to the source base station indicating that the target base station supports the UP IP;
- transmit, if it is determined that the handover message includes the indication to the source base station indicating that the target base station supports the UP IP, a radio resource control (RRC) reconfiguration message to the UE to cause the UE to handover communications to the target base station;
- and
- refrain from transmitting, if it is determined that the handover message does not include the indication to the source base station indicating that the target base station supports the UP IP and if one or more data sessions to be transferred to the target base station require UP IP support, the RRC reconfiguration message to the UE to cause cancelling handover of communications of the UE to the target base station.
A method for wireless communication, comprising:
- initiating, by a source base station, handover of a user equipment (UE) from the source base station to a target base station by transmitting, to the target base station, a handover request, wherein the source base station supports user plane (UP) integrity protection (IP) for the UE;
- receiving, from the target base station, a handover message acknowledging the handover request to handover the UE from the source base station to the target base station;
- determining, by the source base station, whether the handover message includes an indication to the source base station indicating that the target base station supports the UP IP;
- transmitting, when it is determined that the handover message includes the indication to the source base station indicating that the target base station supports the UP IP, a radio resource control (RRC) reconfiguration message to the UE to cause the UE to handover communications to the target base station;
- and
- refraining from transmitting, when it is determined that the handover message does not include the indication to the source base station indicating that the target base station supports the UP IP and when one or more data sessions to be transferred to the target base station require UP IP support, the RRC reconfiguration message to the UE to cause cancelling handover of communications of the UE to the target base station.
