Regions of interest in autofocus processing

A method comprising:

• receiving image data obtained via an image sensor of a camera;
• concurrently applying one or more horizontal filters to the image data to generate horizontally filtered image data and one or more vertical filters to the image data to generate vertically filtered image data;
• generating a first accumulation matrix for the horizontally filtered image data;
• generating a second accumulation matrix for the vertically filtered image data;
• determining autofocus statistics based on the first accumulation matrix and the second accumulation matrix;
• and
• outputting information to adjust one or more lenses of the camera based on the autofocus statistics.

A computer-readable storage medium storing instructions thereon that when executed cause one or more processors to:

• receive image data obtained via an image sensor of a camera;
• concurrently apply one or more horizontal filters to the image data to generate horizontally filtered image data and one or more vertical filters to the image data to generate vertically filtered image data;
• generate a first accumulation matrix for the horizontally filtered image data;
• generate a second accumulation matrix for the vertically filtered image data;
• determine autofocus statistics based on the first accumulation matrix and the second accumulation matrix;
• and
• output information to adjust one or more lenses of the camera based on the autofocus statistics.
