Systems and methods for recording broadcast programs that will be missed due to travel delays

A method for managing broadcast program consumption, the method comprising:

• accessing, by a media guidance application, a data store comprising one or more broadcast programs related to a user's viewing preferences stored in the user's profile;
• obtaining, by the media guidance application, an estimated time of arrival (ETA) of the user to a predetermined physical location having a media consumption device with a network interface, wherein the ETA is obtained from a navigational application on a user equipment that the user is currently using;
• retrieving, by the media guidance application, broadcast times and dates of each broadcast program, from the one or more broadcast programs;
• filtering the broadcast times and dates to identify the first broadcast program based on a determination that the first broadcast program is being broadcasted on a present date;
• selecting the first broadcast program for determining whether the overlap exists;
• comparing, by the media guidance application, a broadcast schedule associated with the first broadcast program identified based on the filtering, wherein the comparing includes determining whether an overlap exists between a start and end time of the first broadcast program and the obtained ETA;
• in response to determining an overlap, generating, by the media guidance application, a recording option for display on the user equipment, wherein the said generation being responsive to a determination, based on sensor data received from the navigational application via the network interface indicating a current operational state of the user equipment, that the user is able to interact with the displayed option;
• and
• upon receiving, via the network interface, a user selection of the displayed recording option, transmitting, by the media guidance application, a command to a recording device associated with the predetermined physical location to initiate a recording of the first broadcast program.

A system for managing broadcast program consumption, the system comprising:

• communications circuitry configured to access a data store comprising one or more broadcast programs related to a user's viewing preferences stored in the user's profile;
• and
• control circuitry configured to:
• obtain an estimated time of arrival (ETA) of the user to a predetermined physical location having a media consumption device with a network interface, wherein the ETA is obtained from a navigational application on a user equipment that the user is currently using;
• compare a broadcast schedule associated with a first broadcast program identified based on the user's viewing preferences, from the one or more broadcast programs stored in the data store, wherein the comparing includes determining whether an overlap exists between a start and end time of the first broadcast program and the obtained ETA;
• in response to determining an overlap, generating a recording option for display on the user equipment, wherein the said generation being responsive to a determination, based on sensor data received from the navigational application via the network interface indicating a current operational state of the user equipment, that the user is able to interact with the displayed option;
• and
• upon receiving, via the network interface, a user selection of the displayed recording option, transmitting a command to a recording device associated with the predetermined physical location to initiate a recording of the first broadcast program.

A system for managing broadcast program consumption, the system comprising:

• communications circuitry configured to access a data store comprising one or more broadcast programs related to a user's viewing preferences stored in the user's profile;
• and
• control circuitry configured to:
• obtain an estimated time of arrival (ETA) of the user to a predetermined physical location having a media consumption device with a network interface, wherein the ETA is obtained from a navigational application on a user equipment that the user is currently using;
• retrieve broadcast times and dates of each broadcast program, from the one or more broadcast programs;
• filter the broadcast times and dates to identify the first broadcast program based on a determination that the first broadcast program is being broadcasted on a present date;
• select the first broadcast program for determining whether the overlap exists;
• compare a broadcast schedule associated with the first broadcast program identified based on the filtering, wherein the comparing includes determining whether an overlap exists between a start and end time of the first broadcast program and the obtained ETA;
• in response to determining an overlap, generating a recording option for display on the user equipment, wherein the said generation being responsive to a determination, based on sensor data received from the navigational application via the network interface indicating a current operational state of the user equipment, that the user is able to interact with the displayed option;
• and
• upon receiving, via the network interface, a user selection of the displayed recording option, transmitting a command to a recording device associated with the predetermined physical location to initiate a recording of the first broadcast program.
