Antenna module implemented as multi-layer substrate, and electronic device including same

An electronic device comprising:

• a display;
• a main frame disposed along a peripheral region of the display and arranged to extend along a side region and a rear region of the electronic device;
• and
• at least one antenna module disposed at a side of the main frame and configured to radiate a radio signal in at least one direction,
• wherein each of the at least one antenna module comprises:
• an antenna substrate on which a plurality of antenna elements are arranged;
• and
• a dielectric-air gap-dielectric (DAD) structure arranged to correspond to a corresponding direction of the at least one direction,
• wherein the dielectric-air gap-dielectric (DAD) structure comprises:
• a first dielectric layer spaced apart from the antenna substrate with respect to the corresponding direction;
• and
• a second dielectric layer forming a peripheral region of the antenna module and spaced apart from the first dielectric layer with respect to the corresponding direction and such that an air gap is defined between the first dielectric layer and the second dielectric layer,
• wherein the air gap of one of the at least one antenna module is defined to have a triangular cross-sectional shape configured to enhance a directivity of the radiated radio signal in a specified direction, and
• wherein the triangular cross-sectional shape is defined by:
• a first short side surface defining the air gap located near the display;
• a first side surface of the first dielectric layer;
• and
• a first side surface of the second dielectric layer.
