Patient support systems and methods for assisting caregivers with patient care

A patient support system comprising:

• a patient support apparatus comprising a patient support surface and one or more powered operational devices configured to perform one or more operational functions for adjusting the patient support apparatus to at least partially move a patient relative to a floor surface;
• a user interface configured to receive input from a user;
• a display configured to provide instructions to the user;
• a controller in communication with the user interface and the display, the controller being configured to:
• present to the user, sequentially on the display, a plurality of steps of a guidance protocol to effect operation of the one or more powered operational devices, each of the plurality of steps comprising one or more of the instructions,
• at each of the plurality of steps, while a current step is visually emphasized on the display, receive an input signal comprising a user-performed action in response to the one or more of the instructions with at least one of the user-performed actions corresponding to a selection of a desired operational function of the one or more powered operational devices, and
• advance the guidance protocol to a next step and transmit a control signal to control at least one of the powered operational devices to perform the desired operational function in response to receiving the input signal at each of the plurality of steps until completion of the guidance protocol;
• and
• a remote assistance system remote from the patient support apparatus and in communication with the controller, the remote assistance system configured to transmit instruction signals to the controller to provide the instructions to the user with the display, wherein the remote assistance system is configured to facilitate live support comprising voice conferencing between a remote representative of the remote assistance system and the user with the display and the user interface.
