Abstract

Systems, apparatuses, and methods are described for detecting motion and/or objects in images using distance data. An image of an area to be monitored may be used to generate a distance map that maps distances between features in the area and a camera that took the image. Different reactions may be performed based on motion and/or objects detected in images from the camera and determined to be within different distance reaction zones relative to the camera. The different distance reaction zones and reactions may be based on customizable reaction rules. The distance reaction zones and/or reaction rules may be suggested based on similarities between the area to be monitored and other monitored areas.

Dependent claims

A method comprising:

receiving, by a computing device of a monitoring system, a first image of an area monitored by an imaging device,
generating, based on the first image, a distance map mapping pixels in the first image to distances between the image device and portions of the area;
receiving a first user input indicating a distance;
causing output of a version of the first image modified, based on the first user input and the distance map, to indicate a portion of the first image that corresponds to one or more features in the first image that are within the distance from the imaging device;
receiving a second user input indicating a rule for reacting to objects detected within the distance from the imaging device;
and
triggering output of an alert based on the rule and based on detecting, in a second image captured by the imaging device, an object within the distance from the imaging device.

receiving, by a computing device of a monitoring system, a request to configure monitoring, by a first imaging device, of a first area of a first premises;
based on a second premises, separate from the first premises and comprising a second area monitored by a second imaging device, sharing an attribute with the first premises, retrieving one or more rules, associated with the second premises, for reacting to objects detected within one or more distance ranges from the second imaging device;
receiving a first image of the first area captured by the first imaging device and a distance map mapping pixels in the first image to distances between the first imaging device and portions of the first area;
causing output of:
a version of the first image modified, based on the distance map and the one or more distance ranges, to indicate a portion of the first image that corresponds to one or more features in the first image that are within a distance range from the first imaging device;
and
a rule, of the one or more rules, corresponding to the distance range;
receiving a second image of the first area captured by the first imaging device;
and
triggering output of an alert based on the rule and based on detecting, in the second image, an object within the distance range from the first imaging device.

a memory storing instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, configure the apparatus to:
