Enabling lifecycle management services for heterogeneous cloud resources using blueprints

A system for provisioning and managing resources on resource providers, comprising:

• a resource provider (RP) environment;
• and
• a blueprint orchestrator, comprising a processor and memory, and configured to:
• obtain a blueprint generation request associated with a plurality of resource providers (RPs) from a user;
• in response to obtaining the blueprint generation request:
• make a determination that the blueprint generation request is associated with lifecycle management (LCM) services;
• in response to the determination:
• obtain resource information associated with the LCM services and the plurality of RPs;
• generate a blueprint, wherein the blueprint specifies configuration and request mappings sufficient to fully provision and manage RP resources of the plurality of RPs and LCM resources of the LCM services, wherein the LCM resources include:
• telemetry collection resources, wherein the telemetry collection resources comprise a telemetry collector endpoint and a telemetry collector identifier;
• security resources, wherein the security resources comprise security hooks associated with the RP resources;
• and
• upgrade resources, wherein the upgrade resources comprise a map of upgrade paths for the RP resources;
• based on the resource information and a software repository associated with the plurality of RPs;
• compose the RP resources and the LCM resources on the plurality of RPs based on a generic composition request using the blueprint, wherein the composing g includes fully provisioning and managing the RP resources and the LCM resources as specified by the blueprint;
• and
• perform LCM operations on the RP resources using the LCM resources and the blueprint.

A non-transitory computer readable medium comprising computer readable program code, which when executed by a computer processor enables the computer processor to perform a method for provisioning and managing resources on resource providers, the method comprising:

• obtaining, by a blueprint orchestrator, a blueprint generation request associated with a plurality of resource providers (RPs) from a user;
• in response to obtaining the blueprint generation request:
• making a determination that the blueprint generation request is associated with lifecycle management (LCM) services;
• in response to the determination:
• obtaining resource information associated with the LCM services and the plurality of RPs;
• generating a blueprint, wherein the blueprint specifies configuration and request mappings sufficient to fully provision and manage RP resources of the plurality of RPs and LCM resources of the LCM services, wherein the LCM resources include:
• telemetry collection resources, wherein the telemetry collection resources comprise a telemetry collector endpoint and a telemetry collector identifier;
• security resources, wherein the security resources comprise security hooks associated with the RP resources;
• and
• upgrade resources, wherein the upgrade resources comprise a map of upgrade paths for the RP resources;
• based on the resource information and a software repository associated with the plurality of RPs;
• composing the RP resources and the LCM resources on the plurality of RPs based on a generic composition request using the blueprint, wherein the composing includes fully provisioning and managing the RP resources and the LCM resources as specified by the blueprint;
• and
• performing LCM operations on the RP resources using the LCM resources and the blueprint.
