Enriching code for code explainability

A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium configured to store instructions that, in response to being executed, causes a system to perform operations, the operations comprising:

• receiving, as an output of a code generation tool, a file that includes a computer-executable code and a non-executable description associated with the computer-executable code;
• segmenting the computer-executable code into a plurality of blocks;
• modifying the computer-executable code by transforming each of the plurality blocks of the computer-executable code into a modular code block, wherein the plurality of blocks of the of the computer-executable code are transformed into the modular code blocks representing content of each of the plurality of blocks of the computer-executable code through a function definition and function call;
• determining, from the modified computer-executable code and the non-executable description, at least one of variables, function calls and function parameters as a set of trigger conditions;
• determining whether at least one trigger condition for the modified computer-executable code and at least one trigger condition for the non-executable description among the set of trigger conditions that matches with a respective template condition among the template conditions included in a set of revision rules, wherein the set of revision rules corresponds to a template file that includes the template conditions as variables, function calls, or function parameters, and values corresponding to the template conditions, the values being names of functions that need to be called;
• if a match is determined between the at least one trigger condition and the respective template condition, identifying, based on the match, a value corresponding to the matching template condition for each of the at least one trigger condition;
• searching code packages to identify Application Programming Interface (API) calls used in the code packages;
• extracting data related to the API calls from the code packages, wherein the extracted data includes one or more of API functions, docstrings, parameter descriptions, and URLs associated with the API functions;
• summarizing the extracted data into a set of explanation strings associated with the API functions;
• generating a revision rule of the set of revision rules based on the set of explanation strings;
• updating, based on the set of revision rules, both the modified computer-executable code and the non-executable description with a function description of the function represented by each identified value;
• and
• generating a tutorial-style code file that includes the updated modified computer-executable code and the updated non-executable description, the updated non-executable description includes additional explanation text that was not provided before the updating within the tutorial-style code file describing the updated modified computer-executable.

A system, comprising:

• a processor configured to:
• receive, as an output of a code generation tool, a file that includes a computer-executable code and a non-executable description associated with the computer-executable code;
• segment the computer-executable code into a plurality of blocks;
• modify the computer-executable code by transforming each of the plurality blocks of the computer-executable code into a modular code block, wherein the plurality of blocks of the of the computer-executable code are transformed into the modular code blocks representing content of each of the plurality of blocks block of the computer-executable code through a function definition and function call;
• determine, from the modified computer-executable code and the non-executable description, at least one of variables, function calls and function parameters as a set of trigger conditions;
• determine whether at least one trigger condition for the modified computer-executable code and at least one trigger condition for the non-executable description among the set of trigger conditions that matches with a respective template condition among the template conditions included in a set of revision rules, wherein the set of revision rules corresponds to a template file that includes the template conditions as variables, function calls, or function parameters, and values corresponding to the template conditions, the values being names of functions that need to be called;
• if a match is determined between the at least one trigger condition and the respective template condition, identify, based on the match, a value corresponding to the matching template condition for each of the at least one trigger condition;
• search code packages to identify Application Programming Interface (API) calls used in the code packages;
• extract data related to the API calls from the code packages, wherein the extracted data includes one or more of API functions, docstrings, parameter descriptions, and URLs associated with the API functions;
• summarize the extracted data into a set of explanation strings associated with the API functions;
• generate a revision rule of the set of revision rules based on the set of explanation strings;
• update, based on the set of revision rules, both the modified computer-executable code and the non-executable description with a function description of the function represented by each identified value;
• and
• generate a tutorial-style code file that includes the updated modified computer-executable code and the updated non-executable description, the updated non-executable description includes additional explanation text that was not provided before the updating within the tutorial-style code file describing the updated modified computer-executable.
