Abstract
A marine propulsion system for a marine vessel has a first marine propulsion device coupled to the marine vessel and a second marine propulsion device coupled to the marine vessel. The first marine propulsion device has a first engine controlled by a first electronic control module. The second marine propulsion device has a second engine controlled by a second electronic control module. In response to the first marine propulsion device being keyed ON, the second electronic control module of the second marine propulsion device is turned ON.
Claims18
A method for a marine propulsion system for a marine vessel, the method being carried out by a control module and comprising:
- determining whether a first marine propulsion device of the marine propulsion system is keyed ON, the first marine propulsion device having a first electronic control module controlling operation of a first engine;
- and
- in response to the first marine propulsion device being keyed ON, providing electrical power over a line that electrically connects the first electronic control module to a second electronic control module that controls operation of a second engine of a second marine propulsion device of the marine propulsion system, whereby the electrical power flows from the first marine propulsion device to the second marine propulsion device over the line and turns on the second electronic control module.
A method for a marine propulsion system for a marine vessel, the method being carried out by a control module and comprising:
- determining whether a first marine propulsion device of the marine propulsion system is keyed ON, the first marine propulsion device having a first electronic control module controlling operation of a first engine;
- in response to the first marine propulsion device being keyed ON, providing electrical power over a line that electrically connects a high side output of the first electronic control module to a second electronic control module controlling operation of a second engine of a second marine propulsion device of the marine propulsion system, whereby the electrical power flows from the first marine propulsion device to the second marine propulsion device over the line and turns on the second electronic control module;
- and
- determining that the second electronic control module is being turned ON in response to the first marine propulsion device being keyed ON, whereby the second electronic control module is configured to provide communication only of given parameters and control only of given outputs of the second marine propulsion device.
A marine propulsion system for a marine vessel, the marine propulsion system comprising:
- a first marine propulsion device coupled to the marine vessel, the first marine propulsion device having a first engine controlled by a first electronic control module;
- and
- a second marine propulsion device coupled to the marine vessel, the second marine propulsion device having a second engine controlled by a second electronic control module;
- wherein, in response to the first marine propulsion device being keyed ON, the second electronic control module of the second marine propulsion device is turned ON;
- and
- wherein the second engine is not started when the second electronic control module is turned ON in response to the first marine propulsion device being keyed ON.
