Abstract
A system for detecting an event in an electrical infrastructure is disclosed. The system includes a plurality of monitoring stations configured to monitor signals from electrical equipment to detect one or more events associated with the electrical equipment. The monitoring stations are spaced at intervals along the electrical infrastructure. The system further includes a processor configured to analyze the detected events to obtain information regarding at least one of location, character and severity of each event associated with the electrical equipment, and output the obtained information.
Claims16
A system for detecting an event in an electrical infrastructure, the system comprising:
- a plurality of monitoring stations configured to sense, via one or more sensors, signals comprising voltage, current, or electromagnetic field disturbances from electrical equipment to detect one or more events associated with the electrical equipment, wherein the monitoring stations are spaced at intervals along the electrical infrastructure, wherein each monitoring station is configured to record a number of samples between pulse per second (PPS) signals in conjunction with an associated sampling interval;
- and a processor configured to analyze the detected events to obtain information regarding a risk score of each event associated with the electrical equipment, and output the obtained information;
- wherein the processor is further configured to:
- calculate an arrival time for each event;
- correct the calculated arrival time using the recorded number of samples;
- and determine a location of each event based on the corrected arrival time.
A computer-implemented method for detecting an event in an electrical infrastructure, the method comprising:
- sensing, via one or more sensors at each of a plurality of monitoring stations, signals from electrical equipment comprising voltage, current, or electromagnetic field disturbances to detect one or more events associated with the electrical equipment, wherein the monitoring stations are spaced at intervals along the electrical infrastructure;
- recording, via the plurality of monitoring stations, a number of samples between pulse per second (PPS) signals in conjunction with an associated sampling interval;
- transmitting, via the plurality of monitoring stations, the number of samples to a processor;
- analyzing, via the processor, the detected events to obtain information regarding a risk score of each event associated with the electrical equipment;
- calculating, via the processor, an arrival time for each event;
- correcting the calculated arrival time using the recorded number of samples;
- determining a location of each event based on the correct arrival time;
- and outputting, via the processor, the obtained information.
