Abstract
The present disclosure provides kits for detecting Mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis (MAP) infection and biomarkers correlated with MAP-associated diseases or disorders. The present disclosure also provides methods of diagnosing a subject with a MAP-associated autoimmune disease or disorder and/or determining the treatment course of a subject diagnosed with a MAP-associated autoimmune disease or disorder.
Claims7
A method of diagnosing one or more autoimmune disease or disorder in a subject, the method comprising the steps of:
- a) obtaining a blood sample from said subject;
- b) detecting a Mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis (MAP) infection in said subject;
- detecting a first biomarker positively correlated with said autoimmune disease or disorder;
- and detecting a second biomarker negatively correlated with said autoimmune disease or disorder;
- thereby diagnosing said subject with said autoimmune disease or disorder;
- and
- c) administering to said subject diagnosed with said autoimmune disease or disorder a therapeutic to treat said autoimmune disease or disorder;
- wherein the subject is a human;
- wherein said one or more autoimmune disease or disorder is Crohn's Disease (CD), Ulcerative Colitis (UC), or a combination thereof;
- wherein said first biomarker is an antibody specific for Hsp65;
- and
- wherein said second biomarker is an antibody specific for protein kinase G (PknG).
A method of selecting a subject diagnosed with one or more autoimmune disease or disorder to be treated with one or more antibiotic, the method comprising the steps of:
- a) obtaining a blood sample from said subject;
- b) detecting a Mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis (MAP) infection in said subject;
- detecting a first biomarker positively correlated with said autoimmune disease or disorder;
- detecting a second biomarker negatively correlated with said autoimmune disease or disorder;
- thereby diagnosing said subject with said autoimmune disease or disorder;
- c) detecting the presence of MAP with a clinical assay;
- and
- d) treating said subject with one or more antibiotic specific to MAP infection;
- wherein the subject is a human;
- wherein said one or more autoimmune disease or disorder is Crohn's Disease (CD), Ulcerative Colitis (UC), or a combination thereof;
- wherein said first biomarker is an antibody specific for Hsp65;
- and
- wherein said second biomarker is an antibody specific for protein kinase G (PknG).
