Target for use in firearms training

A target for use in training personnel in an operation of a thermal imaging system, the target including:

• an outer shell formed of a three dimensional molded plastic shell at least partially enclosing an internal cavity having air within a space defined by the internal cavity of the outer shell, the outer shell having an outer appearance of a person and comprises a head shaped region and a body shaped region;
• and
• an electrically powered heat source, wherein:
• the heat source is located within the head shaped region of the internal cavity;
• the heat source is spaced away from a three-dimensional inside surface of the head shaped region of the outer shell and the heat source does not contact the three-dimensional inside surface of the head shaped region of the outer shell;
• the heat source is arranged to introduce heat to the internal cavity to thereby warm the three-dimensional inside surface of the head shaped region of the outer shell predominantly by radiation which passes through the air that separates the internal cavity from the three-dimensional inside surface of the head shaped region of the outer shell of the target to warm the inside surface of the cavity to thereby generate a heat signature.
