Abstract
A fluid end assembly comprising a plurality of fluid end sections positioned in a side-by-side relationship. Each section comprises a housing containing a reciprocating plunger. One and only one packing seal is installed within the housing and surrounds and engages an outer surface of the plunger. A retainer compresses and holds the packing seal within the housing. The retainer is secured to the housing using a clamp, such that no threads are formed in the housing of the fluid end section and no threads are formed in the retainer.
Claims19
A fluid end, comprising:
- a housing having an external surface defining opposed first and second surfaces;
- a single horizontal bore formed in the housing and interconnecting the first and second surfaces;
- a retainer abutting the first surface of the housing;
- a clamp surrounding and engaging at least a portion of the housing and at least a portion of the retainer, the clamp comprising:
- a plurality of inner clamp components, the plurality of inner clamp components each configured to engage the at least a portion of the housing and the at least a portion of the retainer;
- and
- an outer clamp surrounding and engaging the plurality of inner clamp components;
- and
- a valve pair situated within the single horizontal bore, the valve pair comprising a discharge valve and a suction valve.
An apparatus, comprising:
- a fluid end comprising a plurality of fluid end sections, each fluid end section comprising a housing;
- a pair of intake manifolds, in which each intake manifold is in fluid communication with each of the plurality of fluid end sections;
- and
- a clamp configured to engage and surround at least a portion of a selected one of the housings and at least a portion of a retainer secured to the selected one of the housings, the clamp comprising:
- a plurality of inner clamp segments, each of the plurality of inner clamp segments comprising:
- an inner surface defining a groove;
- and
- an outer surface having an arced profile;
- an outer clamp component, comprising:
- an unclosed cylindrical ring having opposed first and second ends, the first and second ends configured to mate;
- and
- a fastening system configured to secure the outer clamp around the plurality of inner clamp segments.
A fluid end assembly, comprising:
- a plurality of fluid ends, each fluid end comprising:
- a housing having an external surface defining opposed first and second surfaces;
- a bore formed in the housing and interconnecting the first and second surfaces;
- a retainer abutting the first surface of the housing;
- and
- a clamp surrounding and engaging at least a portion of the housing and at least a portion of the retainer, the clamp comprising:
- a plurality of inner clamp components, the plurality of inner clamp components each configured to engage the at least a portion of the housing and the at least a portion of the retainer;
- and
- an outer clamp surrounding and engaging the plurality of inner clamp components;
- in which each of the fluid ends is formed as an individual fluid end section;
- and
- in which the plurality of fluid end sections are positioned in a side-by-side relationship;
- a first intake manifold in fluid communication with each of the plurality of fluid end sections;
- and
- a second intake manifold in fluid communication with each of the plurality of fluid end sections.
A fluid end assembly, comprising:
- a plurality of fluid ends, each fluid end comprising:
- a housing having an external surface defining opposed first and second surfaces;
- a bore formed in the housing and interconnecting the first and second surfaces;
- a retainer abutting the first surface of the housing;
- and
- a clamp surrounding and engaging at least a portion of the housing and at least a portion of the retainer, the clamp comprising:
- a plurality of inner clamp components, the plurality of inner clamp components each configured to engage the at least a portion of the housing and the at least a portion of the retainer;
- and
- an outer clamp surrounding and engaging the plurality of inner clamp components;
- in which each of the fluid ends is formed as an individual fluid end section;
- and
- in which the plurality of fluid end sections are positioned in a side-by-side relationship;
- a first discharge manifold in fluid communication with each of the plurality of fluid end sections;
- and
- a second discharge manifold in fluid communication with each of the plurality of fluid end sections.
