Abstract
Installation systems and methods for fenestration units configured to be set into a rough opening (RO) from interior side of a building structure or wall. The fenestration units may include a retention system coupled to the frame and operable to exert a retention force on the fenestration unit to maintain positive engagement of the fenestration unit with the rough opening framing and resist extraction of the fenestration unit from the rough opening upon insertion of the fenestration unit in the rough opening from the interior side of the rough opening.
Claims24
A method of installing a fenestration unit in a rough opening in a structure defined by a rough opening framing, the rough opening framing having an interior side toward an interior direction of the structure and an exterior side toward an exterior direction of the structure opposite the interior direction, and the rough opening framing having an interior-facing surface toward an interior of the structure, an exterior-facing surface toward an exterior of the structure, a center, a perimeter extending around the center, and a support surface facing toward the center and substantially orthogonal to the interior-facing surface of the structure, the method comprising:
- slidably coupling a first leg of a coupling bracket of an anchoring clip within a carrier bracket secured to a perimeter of a frame of the fenestration unit such that the coupling bracket is releasably locked at a pre-selected depth within the carrier bracket relative to a front of the frame;
- seating the fenestration unit in the rough opening after slidably coupling the first leg of the coupling bracket within the carrier bracket by translating the fenestration unit in the exterior direction within the rough opening until a second leg of the coupling bracket is abutted against the interior-facing surface of the rough opening framing;
- and
- securing the second leg of the coupling bracket to the interior-facing surface of the rough opening framing.
A method of installing a fenestration unit in a rough opening in a structure defined by a rough opening framing, the rough opening framing having an interior surface facing toward an interior of the structure, an exterior surface facing toward an exterior of the structure, a center, a perimeter extending around the center, and a support surface extending substantially orthogonal to the interior of the structure, the fenestration unit having a frame, the method comprising:
- transitioning a coupling bracket of an anchoring clip secured to the frame by a carrier bracket of the anchoring clip from a stowed configuration to an installation configuration, wherein a first leg of the coupling bracket extends toward a general center of the frame in the stowed configuration, and wherein the first leg extends away from the general center of the frame in the installation configuration;
- seating the fenestration unit in the rough opening framing with the coupling bracket in the installation configuration by translating the fenestration unit in an exterior direction toward the exterior facing side within the rough opening until the first leg is abutted against the interior-facing surface of the rough opening framing;
- and
- securing the first leg of the coupling bracket to the interior-facing surface of the rough opening framing.
A method of installing a fenestration unit in a rough opening in a structure defined by a rough opening framing, the rough opening framing having an interior surface facing toward an interior of the structure, an exterior surface facing toward an exterior of the structure, a center, a rough opening framing perimeter extending around the center, and a support surface extending substantially orthogonal to the interior of the structure, the fenestration unit including a frame defining a perimeter, the method comprising:
- de-coupling a first coupling bracket of a first anchoring clip from a carrier bracket coupled to the perimeter of the frame;
- rotating the first coupling bracket to an installation position;
- re-coupling the first coupling bracket to the carrier bracket in the installation position in which a first leg of the first coupling bracket extends away from the perimeter of the frame;
- and
- seating the fenestration unit in the rough opening framing by translating the fenestration unit in an exterior direction toward the exterior facing side within the rough opening until the first leg is abutted against the interior-facing surface of the rough opening framing in the installation configuration.
