Feed pad water collection system and method

A feed storage arrangement for use with a sheet like feed barrier, the storage arrangement comprising:

• a feed pad forming a substantially horizontal upper surface and having a feed pad edge, the feed pad edge including a first edge that extends between first and second ends and at least first and second transverse edges that extend from the first and second ends, respectively, along trajectories to a first side of the first edge;
• a leachate channel that extends along the first edge of the feed pad from a first end adjacent the second transverse edge of the feed pad to an outlet end adjacent the first transverse edge of the feed pad;
• the feed pad forming a fresh water outlet adjacent the leachate channel, the outlet opening downward and in fluid communication with a peripheral area adjacent the feed pad edge;
• and
• a clean water channel on a side of the leachate channel opposite the feed pad.

A feed storage arrangement for use with a sheet like feed barrier, the storage arrangement comprising:

• at least one elongated leachate channel having an outlet end;
• and
• a feed pad having a peripheral edge and forming an upward facing surface that extends along one side of the leachate channel;
• a first fresh water passage located between the feed pad and the leachate channel, the first fresh water passage opening upward adjacent the leachate channel and in fluid communication with an area adjacent the peripheral edge of the feed pad;
• and
• a second fresh water passage located on the side of the leachate channel opposite the feed pad, the second fresh water passage opening upward adjacent the leachate channel and in fluid communication with an area adjacent the peripheral edge of the feed pad,
• wherein the at least one elongated leachate channel extends below grade along a length from the first end to the outlet end.

A feed storage arrangement for use with a sheet like feed barrier, the storage arrangement comprising:

• a feed pad including first and second lateral edges and first and second transverse edges wherein the second lateral edge is spaced apart from the first lateral edge and the first transverse edge is spaced apart from and opposite the second transverse edge;
• at least one elongated leachate channel having a first end and an outlet end opposite the first end, the leachate channel extending adjacent at least a portion of the first edge of the feed pad with the outlet end proximate the first transverse edge of the feed pad, the leachate channel located below a height of an upper surface of the feed pad adjacent the first edge of the feed pad, where the leachate channel is upwardly open along its length and extends along substantially the entire length of the first edge of the feed pad;
• and
• at least a first clean water area on a side of the leachate channel opposite the second edge of the feed pad;
• wherein, with feed supported on the feed pad, the feed barrier is positionable on top of the feed with an edge portion extending over the leachate channel to a side of the leachate channel opposite the second edge of the feed pad.

A feed storage arrangement for use with a sheet like feed barrier, the storage arrangement comprising:

• a feed pad including first and second lateral edges and first and second transverse edges wherein the second lateral edge is spaced apart from the first lateral edge and the first transverse edge is spaced apart from and opposite the second transverse edge, the feed pad angling downward from the second edge toward the first edge;
• and
• at least one elongated leachate channel having a first end and an outlet end opposite the first end, the leachate channel extending along at least a portion of the first edge of the feed pad with the outlet end proximate the first transverse edge of the feed pad, the leachate channel located below a height of an upper surface of the feed pad adjacent the first edge of the feed pad, and wherein at least a portion of the leachate channel angles downward from the first end toward the outlet end;
• at least a first leachate drain that opens into the leachate channel adjacent the first edge of the feed pad;
• and
• at least a clean water area on a side of the leachate channel opposite the side on which the second edge of the feed pad resides;
• wherein, with feed supported on the feed pad, the feed barrier is positionable on top of the feed with an edge portion of the feed barrier extending over the leachate channel to a side of the leachate channel opposite the second edge of the feed pad;
• and
• wherein the at least a first leachate drain includes an elongated opening that extends along a trajectory that runs parallel to at least a portion of the first of the feed pad.

A feed storage arrangement for use with a sheet like feed barrier, the storage arrangement comprising:

• a feed pad including first and second lateral edges and first and second transverse edges wherein the second lateral edge is spaced apart from the first lateral edge and the first transverse edge is spaced apart from and opposite the second transverse edge, the feed pad angling downward from the second edge toward the first edge;
• at least one elongated leachate passage having a first end and an outlet end opposite the first end, the leachate passage extending along at least a portion of the first edge of the feed pad with the outlet end proximate the first transverse edge of the feed pad, the leachate passage located below a height of an upper surface of the feed pad adjacent the first edge of the feed pad, and wherein the leachate passage angles downward from the first end toward the outlet end;
• an elongated leachate drain that opens downward into the leachate passage adjacent the first edge of the feed pad, a length dimension of the leachate drain aligned substantially parallel to the first edge of the feed pad;
• at least a clean water area on a side of the leachate passage opposite the side on which the second edge of the feed pad resides;
• and
• an elongated pad barrier on the feed pad between the feed and the second transverse edge of the feed pad that extends generally along a trajectory between the second and first edges of the feed pad and that is spaced apart from the feed, the pad barrier directing liquid on the feed pad between the pad barrier and the second transverse edge of the feed pad toward the first edge of the feed pad, the pad barrier moveable to different positions on the feed pad to change the area of the feed pad located between the pad barrier and the second transverse edge of the feed pad;
• wherein, with feed supported on the feed pad, the feed barrier is positionable on top of the feed with an edge portion of the feed barrier extending over the leachate passage to a side of the leachate passage opposite the second edge of the feed pad;
• and
• wherein, with feed supported on the feed pad, the pad barrier is positionable on the upper surface of the feed pad at a location spaced from the feed and between the feed and the second transverse edge of the feed pad to guide liquid on an exposed portion of the feed pad between the pad barrier and the second transverse edge of the feed pad toward the clean water area.
