Abstract
The present invention provides methods for treating, reducing the severity, or inhibiting the growth of cancer (e.g., lung cancer). The methods of the present invention comprise administering a therapeutically effective amount of a programmed death 1 (PD-1) antagonist (e.g., an anti-PD-1 antibody), to a subject with lung cancer wherein the cancer tissue expresses PD-L1.
Claims31
A method of treating non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) or increasing the survival of a patient with NSCLC, comprising:
- (a) selecting a patient with NSCLC, wherein the patient has tested negative for epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) mutations, anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK) translocations and ROS1 fusions;
- and
- (b) administering one or more doses of a therapeutically effective amount of an antibody or antigen-binding fragment thereof that specifically binds programmed death 1 (PD-1) to the patient, thereby treating NSCLC in the patient;
- wherein the anti-PD-1 antibody or antigen-binding fragment thereof comprises three heavy chain complementarity determining regions (HCDR1, HCDR2 and HCDR3) of a heavy chain variable region (HCVR) and three light chain complementarity determining regions (LCDR1, LCDR2 and LCDR3) of a light chain variable region (LCVR), wherein HCDR1 comprises the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:
- 3;
- HCDR2 comprises the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:
- 4;
- HCDR3 comprises the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:
- 5;
- LCDR1 comprises the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:
- 6;
- LCDR2 comprises the amino acid sequence of AAS;
- and LCDR3 comprises the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:
- 8.
A method for treating non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) or increasing the survival of a patient with NSCLC, comprising:
- (a) selecting a patient with NSCLC, wherein the patient is selected on the basis of at least one attribute selected from the group consisting of:
- (i) the patient has advanced or metastatic NSCLC;
- (ii) the patient has squamous or non-squamous stage III or stage IV NSCLC;
- (iii) the patient has not been previously treated with a systemic treatment for NSCLC;
- and (iv) the patient has been previously treated with an anti-tumor therapy;
- (b) determining if the patient has tested negative for epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) mutations, anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK) translocations and ROS1 fusions;
- and
- (c) administering one or more doses of a therapeutically effective amount of an antibody or antigen-binding fragment thereof that specifically binds PD-1 to the patient, if the patient has tested negative for EGFR mutations, ALK translocations and ROS1 fusions, thereby treating NSCLC in the patient;
- 3;
- HCDR2 comprises the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:
- 4;
- HCDR3 comprises the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:
- 5;
- LCDR1 comprises the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:
- 6;
- LCDR2 comprises the amino acid sequence of AAS;
- and LCDR3 comprises the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:
- 8.
A method of treating non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) or increasing the survival of a patient with NSCLC, comprising:
- (a) selecting a patient with NSCLC, wherein the patient has tested negative for epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) mutations, anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK) translocations and ROS1 fusions;
- and
- (b) administering one or more doses of a therapeutically effective amount of an antibody that specifically binds programmed death 1 (PD-1) to the patient, thereby treating NSCLC in the patient;
- wherein the anti-PD-1 antibody comprises three heavy chain complementarity determining regions (HCDR1, HCDR2 and HCDR3) of a heavy chain variable region (HCVR) and three light chain complementarity determining regions (LCDR1, LCDR2 and LCDR3) of a light chain variable region (LCVR), wherein HCDR1 comprises the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:
- 3;
- HCDR2 comprises the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:
- 4;
- HCDR3 comprises the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:
- 5;
- LCDR1 comprises the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:
- 6;
- LCDR2 comprises the amino acid sequence of AAS;
- and LCDR3 comprises the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:
- 8.
