Abstract
A process for the manufacturing of alkanesulfonic acid by reaction of an alkane with an anhydride in the presence of sulfuric acid and a starter at ambient temperature or higher and under pressure.
Claims8
A process for manufacturing alkanesulfonic acid, R—SO3H, wherein R stands for C1-C4 alkyl, comprising:
- combining an anhydride with sulfuric acid and a peroxide starter to form a mixture, wherein the anhydride is RSO2OSO2R, and
- combining the mixture with an alkane at ambient temperature or higher and under pressure higher than ambient pressure,
- wherein the process does not include adding SO3 as a starting material.
