Elevator positioning system and method of using the same

An elevator positioning system, comprising:

• a transceiver disposed within an elevator shaft, wherein the transceiver emits one or more signals;
• a first positioning element comprising a first reflector element, wherein the first positioning element is mounted on an elevator car within the elevator shaft, wherein the first positioning element is configured to receive and reflect a first signal of the one or more signals emitted from the transceiver;
• a second positioning element comprising a second reflector element, wherein the second positioning element is fixed to a sidewall of the elevator shaft, wherein a reflector plate is configured to receive and reflect a second signal of the one or more signals emitted from the transceiver;
• and
• a controller communicably coupled to the transceiver, wherein the controller is configured to:
• determine a first distance between the transceiver and the first positioning element based at least in part on a first reflection of the first signal of the one or more signals detected by the transceiver from the first positioning element at a first instance;
• determine a second distance between the transceiver and the second positioning element based at least in part on a second reflection of the second signal of the one or more signals detected by the transceiver from the second positioning element at the first instance;
• calculate an adjusted elevator car position defined at least in part by a shaft displacement compensation distance, wherein the adjusted elevator car position is based at least in part on the first distance and the second distance, wherein the shaft displacement compensation distance is based at least in part on an initial distance between the transceiver and the second positioning element at an initial installation instance;
• and
• adjust the elevator car to move about a vertical axis of the elevator shaft to a vertical position within the elevator shaft that corresponds at least in part to the adjusted elevator car position.
