Abstract
A container jostling system for jostling objects within a container is disclosed, where the container is positioned on a conveyor that includes a plurality of rollers that are mutually spaced from one another. The container jostling system includes at least one container contact element that is movable vertically between at least two rollers of the conveyor, and is movable horizontally in a direction that is substantially parallel with the at least two rollers.
Claims29
An object processing system comprising:
- a container jostling station in advance of an object processing station that includes a programmable motion device for grasping and lifting objects from a plurality of containers, said container jostling station comprising
- an input conveyance system that moves in a first direction to provide that a container moves along the first direction;
- a perception system for providing perception data regarding at least one object within the container on the input conveyance system at a perception area that moves in the first direction;
- two hard stops on either side of the input conveyance system in mutually opposing second and third directions that are generally transverse to the first direction;
- a processing system for receiving the perception data and for selecting any one of the two hard stops that the container is to be driven against in a corresponding one of the second and third directions responsive to the perception data;
- and
- a transverse actuation system for driving the container in the corresponding one of the second and third directions against the selected one of the two hard stops on either side of the container on the conveyance system to cause the at least one object in the container to move within the container.
An object processing system comprising:
- a container jostling station in advance of an object processing station that includes a programmable motion device for grasping and lifting objects from a plurality of containers, said container jostling station comprising
- a perception system for providing perception data regarding a plurality of objects within a container on a conveyance system that moves in a first direction;
- two hard stops on either side of the container in mutually opposing second and third directions that are generally transverse to the first direction;
- a processing system for receiving the perception data and for determining whether the container between the two hard stops is to be driven against a selected one of the two hard stops in a corresponding one of the second and third directions responsive to the perception data;
- and
- a transverse actuation system for driving the container in the corresponding one of the second and third directions against the selected one of the two hard stops on either side of the container on the conveyance system to cause the plurality of objects in the container to shift within the container.
A method of processing objects comprising:
- receiving a container at a container jostling station in advance of an object processing station that includes a programmable motion device for grasping and lifting objects, the container being received at the container jostling station on an input conveyor in a first direction;
- providing perception data regarding at least one object within the container on the input conveyor at a perception area;
- selecting, responsive to the perception data, any one of two hard stops on either side of the container jostling station against which the container will be driven against in a corresponding one of second and third mutually opposing directions, the second and third mutually opposing directions being generally orthogonal to the first direction;
- and
- driving the container against the selected one of two hard stops on either side of the container jostling station to cause the at least one object in the container to move within the container.
