System and method of ejecting a payload from an extraterrestrial surface

A spin ejection mechanism comprising:

• a first bracket;
• at least one second bracket spaced apart from the first bracket;
• at least one latch comprising a latch plate, the at least one latch operably coupled between the first bracket and one of the at least one second bracket;
• at least one releasable lock mechanism operably coupled to the at least one second bracket and configured to initiate restrained movement of one of the at least one second bracket, the at least one latch configured to axially restrain the at least one second bracket upon contact with the at least one second bracket after the restrained movement is initiated;
• and
• a spring-loaded lock mechanism coupled to the latch plate and configured to release the latch plate, rotating the at least one latch away from the at least one second bracket and allowing unrestrained movement of the at least one second bracket.
