Abstract
The present disclosure generally relates to a system and methods for managing and controlling emissions produced by a vehicle and/or powertrain, which includes one or more power sources selected from a fuel cell, a fuel cell stack, a battery, and combinations thereof, a processor, one or more inputs, a controller, and one or more emission control devices.
Claims20
A method for managing hydrogen emissions produced by a vehicle, the method comprising:
- controlling a first power source and a second power source different from the first power source so that the first power source provides a majority of a total power required by the vehicle,
- receiving one or more inputs into a processor of the vehicle, the one or more inputs including a vehicle location of the vehicle and a geofencing restriction,
- generating an emission criteria management strategy by the processor based on the one or more inputs,
- diluting the hydrogen emissions before the vehicle enters the geofencing restriction,
- determining a distance between the vehicle location of the vehicle and the geofencing restriction, and
- in response to the distance being equal to or less than a threshold, implementing the emission criteria management strategy by a controller that communicates with the first power source, the second power source, and one or more emission control devices,
- wherein implementing the emission criteria management strategy includes managing the hydrogen emissions from the one or more emission control devices.

A system for managing hydrogen emissions produced by a vehicle, the system comprising:
- a first power source,
- a second power source different from the first power source,
- a processor that generates an emission criteria management strategy based, at least in part, on one or more inputs, wherein the one or more inputs includes a vehicle location of the vehicle and a geofencing restriction, and
- a controller configured to operate the first power source such that the first power source provides a majority of a total power required by the vehicle and configured to implement the emission criteria management strategy by managing the hydrogen emissions from one or more emission control devices in response to determining that a distance between the vehicle location of the vehicle and the geofencing restriction is equal to or less than a threshold, wherein the controller is configured to purge the hydrogen emissions from the vehicle through a ventilation system before the vehicle enters the geofencing restriction.
