Abstract
Described herein are methods of preparing continuous polyolefin textiles laminated to a physically crosslinked, closed cell continuous foam sheet. The methods can include extruding a foamable sheet through a nip while simultaneously feeding a polyolefin textile into the nip to laminate the textile to the foamable sheet, irradiating the laminate, and foaming the laminate.
Claims15
A method of forming a laminate comprising:
- extruding a foamable sheet comprising a crosslinking promoter and polypropylene and/or polyethylene;
- feeding the extruded foamable sheet and a textile through a plurality of rollers to bond the textile to a side of the extruded foamable sheet to form a laminate;
- irradiating the laminate with ionizing radiation, wherein irradiating the laminate with ionizing radiation occurs at least 5 days after forming the laminate such that at least some of the crosslinking promoter diffuses into the textile;
- and
- foaming the foamable sheet of the laminate.
