A method of enhancing the stability of a composition configured for oral use, the stabilized composition comprising:

• at least one filler;
• a basic amine;
• water;
• and
• an organic acid and a sodium or potassium salt of the organic acid, wherein a ratio of the organic acid to the sodium or potassium salt of the organic acid is from about 0.1 to about 10;
• wherein the organic acid has a logP value of from about 1.4 to about 8.0, the method comprising:
• mixing the at least one filler with the water, the basic amine, the organic acid, and the sodium or potassium salt of the organic acid to form the composition, wherein at least a portion of the basic amine is associated with at least a portion of the organic acid or the sodium or potassium salt thereof, the association in the form of an ion pair between the basic amine and a conjugate base of the organic acid, wherein the composition has a pH of less than about 8.

A method of enhancing a predicted oral mucosal absorption of a basic amine from a composition configured for oral use, the composition comprising:

• at least one filler;
• a basic amine;
• water;
• and
• an organic acid and a sodium or potassium salt of the organic acid, wherein a ratio of the organic acid to the sodium or potassium salt of the organic acid is from about 0.1 to about 10;
• wherein the organic acid has a logP value of from about 1.4 to about 8.0, the method comprising:
• mixing the at least one filler with the water, the basic amine, the organic acid, and the sodium or potassium salt of the organic acid to form the composition, wherein at least a portion of the basic amine is associated with at least a portion of the organic acid or the sodium or potassium salt thereof, the association in the form of an ion pair between the basic amine and a conjugate base of the organic acid.
