Abstract
In certain embodiments, methods of activating the mitochondrial unfolded protein response (UPRmt) and inducing mitohormesis in the brain and/or central nervous system of a mammal are provided where the methods can involve administering to the mammal an effective amount of N-proparglyglycine (N-PPG). In certain embodiments, the mammal is a mammal with a neurodegenerative disease and the method provides for the treatment or prophylaxis of the neurodegenerative disease.
Claims46
A method for the treatment and/or prophylaxis of a neurodegenerative disorder in need thereof, said method comprising:
- administering to a mammal identified as having or as at risk for said neurodegenerative disorder an effective amount of N-propargylglycine (N-PPG), wherein the disorder is selected from the group consisting of Huntington's disease, Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, age-related dementia, mild cognitive impairment (MCI), amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), and an ischemic event.
