Methods for mandibular relocation

A method for selecting locations of mandibular relocation features (MRFs) on oral appliances for treatment of a patient comprising:

• determining a first plurality of candidate locations for placing a first MRF on a first oral appliance for a first stage of mandibular relocation (MR) treatment of the patient;
• determining a second plurality of candidate locations for placing a second MRF on a second oral appliance for a second stage of MR treatment of the patient;
• determining one or more of the first plurality of candidate locations that is in a matching location as one or more of the second plurality of candidate locations;
• selecting pairs of candidate locations, each pair including a location of the first plurality of candidate locations for the first stage and a location of the second plurality of candidate locations wherein the location of the first plurality of candidate location matches the location of the second plurality of candidate locations;
• placing a first MRF at the location of the first plurality of candidate locations of a first of the pairs for the first stage, and for placing, a second MRF at the location of the second plurality of candidate locations of a second of the pairs for the second stage, different than the location of the first plurality of candidate location;
• and
• providing instructions to generate the first oral appliance having the first MRF at the location of the first plurality of candidate locations, and the second oral appliance having the second MRF at the location of the second plurality of candidate locations, wherein the first oral appliance and the second oral appliance are fabricated based on the instructions.
