Abstract
Provided herein are systems and methods for determining hook and or positioning feature placements during dental treatment planning. A patient's dentition may be scanned and/or segmented. A target tooth may be identified. Hook and or positioning feature placement may be determined based on satisfying manufacturing and clinical constraints. The hook or positioning features can be input into a dental treatment planning system.
Claims19
A system comprising:
- one or more processors;
- a fabrication machine;
- and
- memory coupled to the one or more processors, the memory configured to store computer-program instructions, that, when executed by the one or more processors, implement a computer-implemented method, the computer-implemented method comprising:
- identifying a portion of a 3D model of a patient's dentition corresponding to a target tooth surface, the identifying:
- identifying a first region of the target tooth surface upon which placement of at least one dental appliance having at least one positioning feature that satisfies a predetermined manufacturing constraints for the at least one dental appliance;
- identifying a second region of the target tooth surface, different from the first region of the target tooth surface, upon which placement of the at least one dental appliance having the at least one positioning feature that satisfies a predetermined clinical constraints for the at least one dental appliance;
- identifying a third region of the target tooth surface comprising an intersection of the first region and the second region, wherein the third region satisfies the predetermined manufacturing constraint and the predetermined clinical constraint;
- developing a dental treatment plan with at the least one positioning feature as part of the at least one dental appliance in a position that satisfies the predetermined manufacturing and clinical constraints for the dental appliance associated with the third region of the target tooth surface;
- outputting the dental treatment plan;
- and
- manufacturing, with the fabrication machine, the at least one dental appliance based on the dental treatment plan.
A method of determining positioning feature placements during dental treatment planning, the method comprising:
- identifying a portion of a 3D model of a patient's dentition corresponding to a target tooth surface, the identifying comprising:
- identifying a first region of the target tooth surface upon which placement of a dental appliance having at least one positioning feature satisfies a predetermined manufacturing constraint for the dental appliance;
- and
- identifying a second region of the target tooth surface, different than the first region of the target tooth surface, upon which placement of the dental appliance having the at least one positioning feature will satisfy a predetermined clinical constraint for the dental appliance;
- identifying a third region of the target tooth surface comprising an intersection of the first region and the second region, wherein the third region satisfies the predetermined manufacturing constraint and the predetermined clinical constraint;
- developing a first stage of a dental treatment plan with at least one positioning feature placed on the dental appliance in a position that corresponds with the third region of the target tooth;
- outputting the dental treatment plan;
- and
- manufacturing the dental appliance based on the dental treatment plan.
