Abstract
An implant that can hold bone graft material, and receive support from adjacent tissues and structures. In one aspect, the implant has an attachment region to directly engage with adjacent tissues and structures. In another aspect, the implant is malleable and can be manipulated to conform to the adjacent tissues and structures.
Claims19
A method comprising:
- positioning an implant having a first malleable portion adjacent a first transverse process, the first malleable portion including a plurality of links, wherein each link includes a non-symmetric cross-sectional shape, is uniform with an immediately adjacent link, and has a male end and a female end, the female ends being configured to receive the male ends and the male ends defining a sphere, and a flexible member extending therethrough;
- and
- manipulating a section of the first malleable portion to conform to a shape of the first transverse process.
An implant comprising:
- a first end and a second end separated from the first end by a first length extending along a longitudinal axis;
- and
- a first malleable portion between the first and second ends capable of moving a section of the medical implant transverse to the longitudinal axis, the first malleable portion including a plurality of links, wherein each link is substantially uniform with each other link and has a three-sided cross-sectional shape having one curved edge, a male end and a female end, the female ends being configured to receive the male ends, and a flexible member extending therethrough,
- wherein the male end defines a sphere.
1 more element
A method comprising:
- positioning an implant having a first malleable portion adjacent a first transverse process, the first malleable portion including a plurality of links, each link having a substantially triangular cross-section and defining a bone graft receiving region configured to receive bone graft material, a male end defining a sphere spaced apart from the bone graft receiving region, and a female end, the female ends being configured to receive the male ends;
- and
- manipulating a section of the first malleable portion to conform to a shape of the first transverse process.
