Abstract
The present application relates to an occlusion device for occluding a left atrial appendage. The device has a stem with an elongate tubular body and a central lumen that extends from a proximal end to a distal end with a proximal portion arranged at the proximal end of the stem, The proximal portion is arranged to engage with an opening of the left atrial appendage. The device includes an expandable member arranged at the distal end of the stem. The central lumen of the stem is in fluid communication with the expandable member and the expandable member is arranged to be positioned inside a left atrial appendage. The expandable member is operable to at least partially expand and displace the proximal portion in a direction towards the expandable member.
Claims18
An occlusion device for occluding a left atrial appendage, the device comprising:
- a stem with an elongate tubular body and a central lumen that extends from a proximal end to a distal end;
- a proximal portion arranged at the end of the stem, wherein the proximal portion is arranged to engage with an opening of the left atrial appendage;
- and
- an expandable member arranged at the distal end of the stem, the expandable member including a distal face, a proximal face, and an internal volume defined by the proximal face and the distal face;
- wherein the central lumen of the stem is in fluid communication with the expandable member;
- wherein the expandable member is arranged to be positioned inside a left atrial appendage;
- and
- wherein the expandable member is arranged to receive fluid into the internal volume such that the expandable member at least partially expands into contact with walls of the left atrial appendage and displaces the proximal portion in a direction towards the expandable member.
An occlusion device for occluding a left atrial appendage, the device comprising:
- a stem with an elongate tubular body and a central lumen that extends from a proximal end to a distal end;
- a proximal portion arranged at the end of the stem, wherein the proximal portion is arranged to engage with an opening of the left atrial appendage;
- and
- an expandable member arranged at the distal end of the stem;
- wherein the central lumen of the stem is in fluid communication with the expandable member;
- wherein the expandable member is arranged to be positioned inside a left atrial appendage;
- wherein the expandable member is operable to at least partially expand and displaces the proximal portion in a direction towards the expandable member;
- and
- wherein the distal end of the stem extends through the expandable member and is secured to an outer surface at a distal end of the expandable member.
An occlusion device for occluding a left atrial appendage, the device comprising:
- a stem with an elongate tubular body and a central lumen that extends from a proximal end to a distal end;
- a proximal portion arranged at the end of the stem, wherein the proximal portion is arranged to engage with an opening of the left atrial appendage;
- and
- an expandable member arranged at the distal end of the stem;
- wherein the central lumen of the stem is in fluid communication with the expandable member;
- wherein the expandable member is arranged to be positioned inside a left atrial appendage;
- wherein the expandable member is operable to at least partially expand and displace the proximal portion in a direction towards the expandable member;
- and
- wherein the expandable member comprises at least two chambers.
An occlusion assembly for occluding a left atrial appendage, the assembly comprising:
- a catheter with an elongate tubular body and a central lumen that extends from a proximal end to a distal end of the catheter, the distal end arranged to be positioned at an opening of the left atrial appendage, the distal end including a capsule;
- a fluid source coupled to the catheter;
- and
- an occlusion device comprising:
- a stem with an elongate tubular body and a central lumen that extends from a proximal end to a distal end;
- a proximal portion arranged at the proximal end of the stem, wherein the proximal portion is arranged to engage with an opening of the left atrial appendage;
- and
- an expandable member arranged at the distal end of the stem, the expandable member comprising a frame and an internal volume defined by the frame;
- wherein the capsule is configured to maintain the occlusion device in a radially collapsed state;
- wherein the frame is at least partially self-expanding such that releasing the expandable member from the capsule causes the expandable member to at least partially expand;
- wherein the central lumen of the stem is in fluid communication with the expandable member to deliver fluid from the fluid source to the internal volume and the expandable member is arranged to be positioned inside a left atrial appendage;
- and
- wherein the expandable member is operable to receive fluid from the fluid source into the internal volume to further expand and to displace the proximal portion in a direction towards the expandable member, wherein the occlusion device is releasably connected to the distal end of the catheter.
