Articles of footwear and upper and/or sole components therefor

A sole structure for an article of footwear, comprising:

• an upper-facing surface;
• and
• a ground-facing surface, wherein the ground-facing surface includes a heel support area, a midfoot support area, and a forefoot support area, and wherein the ground-facing surface of the sole structure includes:
• (a) a first plurality of grooves extending from the ground-facing surface toward the upper-facing surface, wherein at least 75% of a length of grooves of the first plurality of grooves have a first width dimension of at least 1 mm and less than 5 mm in a direction directly across the respective groove;
• (b) a second plurality of grooves extending from the ground-facing surface toward the upper-facing surface, wherein at least 75% of a length of grooves of the second plurality of grooves have a second width dimension of less than 1 mm in a direction directly across the respective groove;
• and
• (c) a base surface extending between the grooves of the first plurality of grooves and the second plurality of grooves, wherein the base surface includes flat or smoothly curved portions extending between the grooves of the first plurality of grooves and the second plurality of grooves,
• wherein the first plurality of grooves, the second plurality of grooves, and the flat or smoothly curved portions of the base surface form at least 70% of a surface area of the ground-facing surface,
• wherein a first subset of the first plurality of grooves is located in the heel support area, wherein grooves of the first subset of the first plurality of grooves are formed as a first continuous curve extending from a first groove end to a second groove end, and wherein each of the first groove end and the second groove end is located further rearward in the sole structure than a forwardmost apex of the first continuous curve,
• wherein a first subset of the second plurality of grooves is located in the heel support area, wherein grooves of the first subset of the second plurality of grooves are formed as a second continuous curve extending from a third groove end to a fourth groove end, and wherein each of the third groove end and the fourth groove end is located further rearward in the sole structure than a forwardmost apex of the second continuous curve,
• wherein a second subset of the first plurality of grooves is located in the forefoot support area, wherein grooves of the second subset of the first plurality of grooves are formed as a third continuous curve extending from a fifth groove end to a sixth groove end, and wherein each of the fifth groove end and the sixth groove end is located further forward in the sole structure than a rearmost apex of the third continuous curve,
• wherein a second subset of the second plurality of grooves is located in the forefoot support area, wherein grooves of the second subset of the second plurality of grooves are formed as a fourth continuous curve extending from a seventh groove end to an eighth groove end, and wherein each of the seventh groove end and the eighth groove end is located further forward in the sole structure than a rearmost apex of the fourth continuous curve,
• wherein a third subset of the first plurality of grooves is located in the midfoot support area, wherein grooves of the third subset of the first plurality of grooves extend in a front-to-back direction of the sole structure, and
• wherein a third subset of the second plurality of grooves is located in the midfoot support area, wherein grooves of the third subset of the second plurality of grooves extend in the front-to-back direction of the sole structure.
