Systems and methods for pausing a digital media stream in response to determining that an associated display device is turned off

A system comprising:

• at least one physical processor incorporated in a server;
• and
• physical memory that is incorporated in the server and comprises computer-executable instructions that, when executed by the at least one physical processor, cause the server to perform acts comprising:
• streaming a digital content stream to a digital content receiver via a network;
• detecting a status change of an interface of a display protocol implemented by a display device associated with the digital content receiver for a digital content system by:
• receiving a plurality of signals transmitted via a display protocol utilized by the display device;
• and
• detecting the status change of the interface of the display protocol implemented by the display device based at least in part on the plurality of signals transmitted via the display protocol;
• determining, based on the detected status change of the interface of the display protocol, that the display device is turned off;
• and
• pausing the digital content stream to the digital content receiver in response to determining that the display device is turned off.

A non-transitory computer-readable medium comprising one or more computer-executable instructions that, when executed by at least one processor of a server, cause the server to:

• stream a digital content stream to a digital content receiver via a network;
• detect a status change of an interface of a display protocol implemented by a display device associated with the digital content receiver for a digital content system by:
• receiving a plurality of signals transmitted via a display protocol utilized by the display device;
• and
• detecting the status change of the interface of the display protocol implemented by the display device based at least in part on the plurality of signals transmitted via the display protocol;
• determine, based on the detected status change of the interface of the display protocol, that the display device is turned off;
• and
• pause the digital content stream to the digital content receiver in response to determining that the display device is turned off.
