A magnetic resonance imaging apparatus includes decoupling circuits respectively connected to receive coils, the decoupling circuits including a first FET and a second FET as changeover switches for switching each of the receive coils between a resonance state and a detuning state, and an FET switch controller that applies a drive voltage to gates of the first and second FETs and performs ON/OFF control. The magnetic resonance imaging apparatus includes a first detection circuit and a second detection circuit for causing a current to the first and second FETs from a reference voltage source, respectively, detects whether the current has flowed to the first FET and/or the second FET via the first detection circuit and/or the second detection circuit, and determines normality or abnormality of the first FET and/or the second FET based on a detection result and a state of a drive voltage applied to the gates.
