Retention system with threaded block locking mechanism

An adapter nose for connecting a ground engaging tip to a base edge of a ground engaging implement, the adapter nose comprising:

• a front surface including a bottom edge, opposing side edges extending from and disposed generally perpendicular to the bottom edge, and a top edge disposed generally parallel to the bottom edge;
• a top surface;
• a bottom surface, wherein the top surface and the bottom surface extend forward from a rear edge of the adapter nose and converge at the front surface of the adapter nose;
• first and second side surfaces extending forward from the rear edge of the adapter nose to the front surface;
• and
• a cutout in the first side surface configured to accept a retainer block, wherein the cutout comprises a plurality of inner side surfaces connected to a base surface by a plurality of inner rounded surfaces.

A tip assembly comprising:

• an adapter comprising an adapter nose, wherein the adapter nose comprises:
• a front surface;
• a top surface;
• a bottom surface, wherein the top surface and the bottom surface extend forward from a rear edge of the adapter nose and converge at the front surface of the adapter nose;
• first and second side surfaces extending forward from the rear edge of the adapter nose to the front surface;
• and
• a cutout in the first side surface, wherein the cutout comprises a plurality of inner side surfaces connected to an inner surface by a plurality of inner rounded surfaces;
• a ground engaging tip, comprising a nose cavity configured to receive the adapter nose, wherein the ground engaging tip comprises:
• a rear edge;
• a top outer surface;
• a bottom outer surface, wherein the top outer surface and the bottom outer surface extend forward from the rear edge and converge at a front edge of the ground engaging tip;
• first and second lateral outer surfaces extending forward from the rear edge to the front edge, wherein the first lateral outer surface includes an opening;
• a retention mechanism comprising:
• a spring;
• a retainer block configured for insertion into the cutout in the first side surface of the adapter, the retainer block including:
• a cavity;
• and
• a slot extending transverse to the cavity and through an outer surface of the retainer block, the slot configured to receive the spring;
• and
• a retainer configured for insertion in the cavity of the retainer block through the opening in the first lateral outer surface of the ground engaging tip, the retainer being further configured to receive at least a portion of the spring in a detent cutout of the retainer.
